The mascots were reviewed from December 11 to February 22 by 6.5 million schoolchildren in Japan, with each class at every primary school in the country casting one vote in favor of their favorite set. The names have still yet to be decided, as the selection panel will decide on names in either July or August.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">It\u2019s official! Design Set A has been chosen \u2013 we have our <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Tokyo2020?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Tokyo2020<\/a> Games mascots! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/2020Mascot?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#2020Mascot<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wzJ7eyTgn3\">pic.twitter.com\/wzJ7eyTgn3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; #Tokyo2020 (@Tokyo2020) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tokyo2020\/status\/968685935377436672?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 28, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am really excited that we are getting closer to unveiling our official mascots,\u201d said Ryohei Miyata, the Chair of the Tokyo 2020 Mascot Selection Panel. \u201cWe decided to encourage children to participate in the preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Games by having them select the mascots, as our children represent a future that Tokyo 2020 wants to embody through the Games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that many schools and classes will take this opportunity to help shape the Games,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 205,755 classrooms at 16,769 elementary schools in Japan took part in selecting the designs according to NBC News.
