Carson Foster\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Hannah Bach\u00a0<\/strong>each had record-breaking performances to highlight the 2018 Ohio High School Swimming and Diving Division I State Championships. Mason High School won the girls meet with 236 points while Cincinnati St. Xavier dominated the boys meet with a total score of 413.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati Ursuline\u2019s Ellie Wheeler <\/strong>(27.29), Claudia Butterfield <\/strong>(28.64), Megan Glass <\/strong>(23.86) and Bella Matesa <\/strong>(23.23) began the meet with a win in the 4×50 medley relay. The quartet combined to post a 1:43.02, finishing just ahead of Hudson (1:43.26) and Mason (1:43.43).<\/p>\n

Mason\u2019s Allison Bloebaum <\/strong>won a close 200 free battle in 1:48.31, just ahead of Glass (1:48.83) and Dublin Coffman\u2019s Kristyn Sabol <\/strong>(1:49.72). Bloebaum, who is committed to swim at Missouri, dominated the 500 free to win in 4:49.60 ahead of Upper Arlington\u2019s Dakota Elliot <\/strong>(4:52.78) and Hudson\u2019s Paige McCormick<\/strong> (4:55.15).<\/p>\n

Future Pitt swimmer Elliot led the way of two swimmer breaking the two-minute barrier in the 200 IM, winning with a final time of 1:58.78. Cincinnati St. Ursula\u2019s Hannah Foster<\/strong> finished second in 1:59.60 and Brunswick\u2019s Felicia Pasadyn <\/strong>took third in 2:00.78.<\/p>\n

Pasadyn won the 100 back in 54.28, followed by Kings Mills Kings\u2019 Brynna Wolfe <\/strong>(55.43) and Powell\u2019s Kate Saczawa <\/strong>(55.60). Glass won the 100 fly by over one second in 53.51, followed by Powell\u2019s Rachel Peroni <\/strong>(54.68) in second and Dublin Coffman\u2019s Hannah Bailey <\/strong>(55.20) in third.<\/p>\n

North Canton Hoover senior and future Ohio State Buckeye Amanda Palutsis <\/strong>sprinted her way to a state title in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a quick 22.96 as the only swimmer to break the 23-second barrier. Her teammate Parker Timken<\/strong> finished second in 23.06 and Lancaster\u2019s Olivia Schmelzer <\/strong>took third in 23.14. Schmelzer, who will stay close to home next year and swim for Cincinnati, won the 100 free in 49.51, followed by Timken (49.96) and Palutsis (50.23).<\/p>\n

North Canton Hoover\u2019s Pulutsis (22.86), Kate Lochridge <\/strong>(23.86), Caroline Ehlers <\/strong>(23.01) and Timken (22.62) were victorious in the 4×50 free relay, posting a final time of 1:32.35 for a new state record. Mason finished second (1:34.18) while Cincinnati St. Ursula (1:34.71) wound up in third.<\/p>\n

Brecksville\u2019s Hannah Bach <\/strong>won the 100 breast in a final time of 1:00.75 to set a new Ohio record in the event. Dublin Coffman\u2019s Ellie Andrews <\/strong>was second in 1:01.09 and Westerville\u2019s Janessa Matthews <\/strong>took third in 1:01.60.<\/p>\n

On the boards, Mount Notre Dame\u2019s Teagan Moravek <\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter with a score of 479.85. Gahanna Lincoln\u2019s Maycey Vieta <\/strong>dove to second with 466.30 points and Lewis Center\u2019s Lauren Cheetham <\/strong>finished third with a score of 449.10.<\/p>\n

North Canton Hoover\u2019s Palutsis (50.52), Reagan St. Clair<\/strong> (52.28), Ehlers (51.88) and Timken (50.01) concluded the girls meet with a win in the 4×100 free relay in a time of 3:24.69. Mason (3:27.40) was second and Cincinnati St. Ursula (3:28.55) was third.<\/p>\n

Cincinnati St. Xavier\u2019s Justin Grender <\/strong>(22.48), Scott Sobolewski <\/strong>(25.44), Jean-Pierre Khouzam <\/strong>(21.53) and Alex Wade <\/strong>(20.52) began the boys meet with a win in the 4×50 medley relay. The quartet dominated the field to win in 1:29.97 ahead of Sylvania Southview (1:33.05) and Cincinnati Sycamore (1:33.88).<\/p>\n

Cincinnati Sycamore\u2019s Carson Foster<\/strong> dominated the 200 free in 1:34.19. The sophomore placed first by over three seconds and his time set a new Ohio state record. Hudson\u2019s Jay Johnson <\/strong>finished second in 1:37.52 and Lewis Center\u2019s Benjamin Kuriger <\/strong>took third in 1:37.90. Foster was also victorious in the 500 free, winning by over 10 second in 4:20.21. Cincinnati St. Xavier\u2019s Nicholas Perera <\/strong>was second in 4:30.50 and his teammate Sam Fallon <\/strong>took third in 4:31.16.<\/p>\n

Johnson won the 100 free in 44.69, only a few tenths ahead of Dublin Coffman\u2019s Eddie Michael <\/strong>(44.92) and Youngstown\u2019s Callen Aulizia <\/strong>(45.81). Perera, who will be swimming at Alabama this fall, won the 200 IM in 1:48.70. His teammate Ansel Froass <\/strong>(1:49.23) was second and Westerville North\u2019s Jason Mathews <\/strong>(1:50.43) was third.<\/p>\n

Mathews later won the 100 breast in 54.76, followed by Sobolewski (55.50) and Ashland\u2019s Hudson McDaniel <\/strong>(55.59). Grender, who is off to Virginia this fall, earned the gold in the 100 back, touching the wall in 48.07 for the win.\u00a0In prelims Grender touched in 47.39, taking down\u00a0Jayme Chramers<\/strong>‘ 2001 state record mark of 47.65.\u00a0Sylvania Southview\u2019s R.J. Kondalski <\/strong>grabbed the silver in 48.95 and Cuyahoga Falls Walsh\u2019s Kaden Smesko <\/strong>took bronze in 49.44.<\/p>\n

Brecksville\u2019s David Madej <\/strong>sprinted his way to first place in the 50 free, stopping the clock in a swift 20.33. Grender was second in a close 20.36 and Beavercreek\u2019s Josef Pohlmann <\/strong>was third in 20.48. Madej, who will swim for Stanford next season, also won the 100 fly with a time of 47.78, just ahead of Khouzam (47.76) and Kuriger (47.93).<\/p>\n

Dublin Jerome\u2019s Grant Cicci <\/strong>(21.19), Westin Fishel <\/strong>(20.95), Elek Kayuha <\/strong>(20.89) and Max Scott<\/strong> (20.33) and Cincinnati St. Xavier\u2019s Froass (21.44), Nicholas Czepukaitis <\/strong>(20.77), Alex Wade <\/strong>(20.57) and Perera (20.58) tied for first in the 4×50 free relay, both posting a final time of 1:23.36. North Canton Hoover (1:23.57) wound up in third.<\/p>\n

Shaker Heights\u2019s Lyle Yost <\/strong>dominated the 1-meter diving, finishing with a final score of 602.40. New Albany\u2019s Noah Duperre <\/strong>(579.05) dove to second and Powell\u2019s Jack Matthews <\/strong>(513.70) finished third.<\/p>\n

Cincinatti St. Xaviers\u2019s Czepukaitis (46.20), Khouzman (46.11), Perera (46.41) and Grender (43.37) concluded the boys meet with a win in the 4×100 free relay, posting a final time of 3:02.09.
