The fourth and final day of the 2018 men’s and women’s Big 12 Conference championships commenced in Austin, Texas this morning with the preliminary session\u00a0featuring both meet and conference records.<\/p>\n
Texas Longhorn duo of Quinn Carrozza<\/strong> and Kaitlin Harty<\/strong>\u00a0got things underway by nabbing\u00a0the first two spots in the women’s 200 back by throwing down swift times of 1:53.71 and 1:56.00, respectively. Rounding out the A final tonight will be WVU’s Maggie Miller<\/strong> with her 2:00.19.<\/p>\n John Shebat<\/strong> took the men’s 200 backstroke top seed by posting a 1:41.54 while the winner of\u00a0last night’s 100 backstroke, Austin Katz<\/strong>, earned the second seed by swimming a 1:41.86. Fellow Longhorn Ryan Harty<\/strong> posted a 1:42.04 for third while TCU’s Radu Duican<\/strong> (1:48.05) will take lane eight in the A final tonight.<\/p>\n In the women’s 100 free\u00a0Longhorn senior Rebecca Millard<\/strong> swam a 47.65 to break the meet record by just .09 while her teammate Claire Adams<\/strong> turned in a 47.70 to earn the second seed going into tonight. Longhorn\u00a0Anelise Diener<\/strong>\u00a0(49.25) took the third spot with a 49.25. WVU’s Julia<\/strong> Nilton<\/strong> will round out the A final with her 50.52.<\/p>\n Texas Longhorn sprint-star Tate Jackson<\/strong> took the men’s 100 free in a conference record time of 41.42, which lowered Olympic gold medalist Jimmy Feigen<\/strong>‘s old record of 41.49. Brett Ringgold<\/strong> was right behind in 41.89. Rounding out the A final tonight will be WVU’s Sam Neaveill<\/strong> (44.28).<\/p>\n Texas Longhorn Kennedy Lohman<\/strong> (2:12.15) and WVU’s Emma Harris<\/strong> (2:13.69) took the top two spots in the women’s 200 breast going into tonight’s finals while Iowa State’s Lehr Thorson<\/strong> will be in lane eight tonight by virtue of her 2:19.42 she posted this morning.<\/p>\n The lack of a strong breaststroker on the Longhorn’s roster seemed to be a fleeting thought after Casey Melzer<\/strong> (1:55.80) and Jared Butler<\/strong> (1:55.88) posted the top two spots this morning with WVU’s Tristen Disibio<\/strong> (1:57.66) taking third.<\/p>\n Remedy Rule<\/strong> took the top spot in the women’s 200 fly with a 1:55.79 while WVU’s Morgan Bullock<\/strong> swam a 1:56.77.
