IOWA CITY, Iowa, February 24. MICHIGAN builds its lead behind three first-place finishes during Day 3 of the 2012 Big Ten Championships. Through 14 events, the Wolverines have recorded 516.5 points. Ohio State sits in second with 380 points, while Indiana checks in with 369 points. Iowa is fourth with 274 points, while Penn State rounds out the top-five with 235.5 points.<\/p>\n
The Wolverine's Dan Madwed and Kyle Whitaker recorded NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 100 butterfly (46.02) and 400 individual medley events (3:41.04), respectively. Michigan's Michael Wynalda also recorded a first place triumph, posting a time of 1:34.10 in the 200 freestyle. The Hoosiers responded with three first-place titles as Cody Miller won the 100 breaststroke (52.34), James Wells won the 100 backstroke (46.30) and Darian Schmidt took home the three-meter crown (459.30).<\/p>\n
Iowa's Ryan Phelan, Duncan Partridge, Gianni Sesto and Paul Gordon secured an automatic qualifying time in the 200 medley relay (1:17.61).<\/p>\n
Action resumes Saturday with preliminaries set for 11 a.m. CT, with finals at 6:30 p.m. CT.<\/p>\n
