EVANSTON, Illinois, February 24. TONIGHT, at the Illinois State High School Championships, the New Trier boys shot down the national high school record in the boys 400-yard freestyle relay during prelims.<\/p>\n
Sam Skinner (46.03), Reed Malone (44.79), Jack Mangan (44.90) and Max Grodecki (44.04) turned in a blazing fast time of 2:59.76. That swim broke the ratified national high school record of 3:00.67 set by Bolles of Florida in November 2011, as well as the national public school record of 3:00.68 set by Saratoga High in California back in 2009.<\/p>\n
Additionally, New Trier bested what has been argued as the national high school record, but was not ratified due to the swim occurring outside of the high school season, even if done while representing the high school as Bolles clocked a 2:59.98 back in 1991. <\/p>\n
