﻿{"id":297644,"date":"2018-02-23T17:45:39","date_gmt":"2018-02-24T00:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=297644"},"modified":"2018-02-23T21:52:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-24T04:52:39","slug":"pac-12-womens-championship-day-3-live-finals-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pac-12-womens-championship-day-3-live-finals-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Ledecky Wins Twice, Stanford Breaks Record on Day 3 of Pac-12 Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Stanford women closed the third night of the Pac-12 Women&#8217;s Championships in record fashion in Federal Way, Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Both Stanford and Cal broke the previous mark, but the win helped the Cardinal build their lead.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford has 1,230.5 points to lead Cal (1,028), Arizona State (667), Arizona (605.5), USC (547.5), UCLA (526.5), Utah (322), Washington State (230) and Oregon State (150).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2018-pac-12-womens-championships-day-3-day-3\/ncaa-college\/2018\/February\/23?rtn=%2Fresults%2F\">DAY 3 COMPLETE RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Events<\/h3>\n<h3><strong>400 IM<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>took down both the American and NCAA records in the women&#8217;s 400 IM at the Pac-12 championships Friday evening. Ledecky swam a time of 3:56.53, beating\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>NCAA record of 3:56.54 set back in 2012 by one hundredth.<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky also crushed the American record of 3:57.57 set by teammate\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong>\u00a0last year. Eastin finished second in the race in 3:57.32, also under her previous American record. She now ranks as the third-fastest performer in history behind Ledecky and Hosszu.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brooke Forde\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 4:01.04, making it a 1-2-3 sweep for the Cardinal.<\/p>\n<p>Cal freshman\u00a0<strong>Sarah Darcel\u00a0<\/strong>was fourth in 4:03.00. Next came three more Stanford swimmers,\u00a0<strong>Allie Szekely\u00a0<\/strong>(4:06.63),\u00a0<strong>L<\/strong><strong>eah Stevens\u00a0<\/strong>(4:07.74) and\u00a0<strong>Hannah Kukurugya\u00a0<\/strong>(4:09.19). This year, her teammate Janet Hu was swimming the event, swapping the 100 fly and 100 back from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Hu won the event this time in 49.93, edging Cal&#8217;s <strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong> (50.13). Baker led a 2-3-4-6 finish for the Golden Bears as <strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong> was third (51.28), <strong>Keaton Blovad<\/strong> was fourth (51.83) and <strong>Sophia Krivokapic-Zhou<\/strong> was sixth (52.56).<\/p>\n<p>USC&#8217;s<strong> Hannah Weiss<\/strong> took fifth (51.91).
