SAN ANTONIO, Texas, February 23. NEVADA and San Jose State each won two events on day two of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.<\/p>\n
The night began with Nevada's Jiao Jiao Mi winning the 500-yard freestyle for the third straight year with a time of 4:46.21. Northern Arizona's Emma Lowther was second in a time of 4:47.31 while Hawaii's Sofija Djelic took third in 4:54.24. The first two swimmers earned NCAA provisional times.<\/p>\n
In the 200 individual medley, last year's third place finisher, Northern Arizona's Fiona Connell, took the gold this year with an NCAA consideration time of 2:02.01. San Jose State captured the next two spots as Julia Craddock was second in a time of 2:02.01 while Darcie Anderson grabbed the bronze in a time of 2:02.50. <\/p>\n
San Jose State's Marisa Dewames won the 50 free in a time of 22.38 while New Mexico State's Aliena Schmidtke was second with a time of 22.82. Dewames' teammate, Kiley Foster, was third with a time of 22.95. All three swam NCAA provisional times.<\/p>\n
Nevada's Grace Huang won the one-meter diving with a score of 305.30. Northern Arizona's Kristy Ardavanis was second with 301.65 points followed by Nevada's Stephanie Hanson with 300.60. <\/p>\n
San Jose State won the final event of the day swimming a pool record time of 1:30.38 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team consisted of Meghan McCurley, Kiley Foster, Erika Harvey and Marisa Dewames. Hawaii was second (1:31.56) while North Dakota placed third in 1:34.39.<\/p>\n
After two days of competition, San Jose State leads the meet with 236 points, while Northern Arizona is just a point behind in second with 235. Hawaii is third with 203 points, while Nevada is fourth with 147. Idaho is fifth with 130 followed by New Mexico State (116), Fresno State (108) and North Dakota (84).<\/p>\n
Action continues tomorrow at Palo Alto Aquatic Center in San Antonio, Texas with the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 1-meter diving and 400 medley relay. Prelims begin at 11:00 a.m. and the finals start at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
