The 2018 men’s and women’s Big 12 championships got underway tonight in Austin with the University of Texas leading the way towards taking\u00a0the team titles.<\/p>\n
The lady Longhorns took the very\u00a0first event, the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:36.87. Their quartet of Claire Adams<\/strong>, Olivia<\/strong> Anderson<\/strong>, Mimi Schneider<\/strong> and Rebecca Millard<\/strong> got past the TCU team of Maddie Ibrahim<\/strong>, Devin Newton<\/strong>, Micaela Roemer<\/strong> and Claire Munster<\/strong> who produced a 1:40.31. Iowa State’s team of Harper Emswiler<\/strong>, Kasey Roberts<\/strong>, Mary Kate Luddy<\/strong> and Laura Miksch<\/strong> threw down a 1:40.37.<\/p>\n Austin Katz<\/strong> led the Longhorn men to a victory in the 200 medley relay by leading off in a quick 21.61 while Austin Temple<\/strong> (24.30) followed with the breast with Joseph Schooling<\/strong> (19.60) and Brett Ringgold<\/strong> (18.79) swimming the fly and free legs which put together a 1:24.30. WVU’s Angelo Russo<\/strong>, Jake Armstrong<\/strong>, David Dixon<\/strong> and Merwane Elmerini<\/strong> produced a 1:25.97 to take second while TCU earned third with their 1:29.07.<\/p>\n On the diving boards the Longhorns took first yet again with Jacob Cornish<\/strong> (367.05)\u00a0 taking the win in the men’s 1-meter diving. The Mountaineers took second an third with Michael Proietto<\/strong> (364.70) and Logan McHenry<\/strong> (330.15).<\/p>\n The lady Longhorns remained at the top of the podium by winning the 800 free relay in the only sub-7:00 time with a 6:58.63. Claire Adams threw down a 1:42.33 anchor leg to contribute to the win. In second was WVU who swam a 7:10.66 while Kansas snuck in for third in 7:13.75.<\/p>\n Taking the win in the men’s race was, to no one’s surprise, Texas with a 6:16.78. Jeff Newkirk<\/strong> was the fastest split in the A relay with a 1:32.80 lead-off leg. WVU took second in a time of 6:27.82 with Nate Carr<\/strong> leading that relay in 1:35.21.
