The award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.<\/p>\n<p>Hu, a Vienna, Va., native, is a computer science major with a focus on Biocomputation with a 3.37 grade point average (GPA). As one of the most versatile swimmers in the nation, Hu is an 18-time All-American, earning the honor in seven different event. She is also an eight-time Pac-12 Champion and six-time individual NCAA Champion. A 2017-18 team captain, she currently holds three American records, two NCAA records, six Stanford school records, and five Stanford pool records. Last season, she won the maximum seven All-America honors to lead Stanford to its first NCAA title in women\u2019s swimming since 1998. Outside of the pool, Janet is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport\u2019s regular season. The athletics accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in voting for the award.<\/p>\n<p>A Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be named in each of the Pac-12\u2019s 24 sponsored sports: baseball, men\u2019s basketball, women\u2019s basketball, beach volleyball, men\u2019s cross country, women\u2019s cross country, football, men\u2019s golf, women\u2019s golf, women\u2019s gymnastics, women\u2019s lacrosse, men\u2019s rowing, women\u2019s rowing, men\u2019s soccer, women\u2019s soccer, softball, men\u2019s swimming &amp; diving, women\u2019s swimming &amp; diving, men\u2019s tennis, women\u2019s tennis, men\u2019s track &amp; field, women\u2019s track &amp; field, women\u2019s volleyball, and wrestling. The award was first established during the 2008-09 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>Hu and the rest of the Pac-12 will all be competing this week at the 2018 Pac-12 Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash. The Pac-12 Women\u2019s Swimming and Diving finals along with men\u2019s diving finals will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Network, and all six regional networks,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2008591923\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Saturday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. PT<\/span><\/span>\/7:30 p.m. MT. Coverage of the prelims and earlier finals will be streamed live on Pac-12.com and the Pac-12 Now app,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2008591924\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Wednesday, February 21<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2008591925\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Thursday, February 22<\/span><\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2008591926\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Friday, February 23<\/span><\/span>\u00a0and will conclude on\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_2008591927\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Saturday, February 24<\/span><\/span>.
