The Cony High School girls and the Cheverus High School boys both repeated as team champions at the 2018 Maine Class A Swimming and Diving State Championships.\u00a0The boys competed on Feb. 17 while the girls raced on Feb. 19.<\/p>\n

At the girls’ meet, Cony High School won their second-consecutive Maine Class A state title with 280 points. Scarborough finished close behind with 259 points, followed by Falmouth (226.5), Kennebunk (218) and Bangor (214).<\/p>\n

Cheverus High School won the boys’ Class A team crown for the sixth-straight year, finishing with a total of 328 points. Bangor took second with 250 points, followed by Brunswick (174), Waterville-Winslow (152) and Portland (145).<\/p>\n

Cony’s\u00a0Tessa Jorgensen\u00a0<\/strong>(30.70),\u00a0Cecilia Guadalupi\u00a0<\/strong>(30.20),\u00a0Gabby Low\u00a0<\/strong>(25.15) and\u00a0Talia Jorgensen\u00a0<\/strong>(27.33) began the meet with a win in the 4×50 medley relay, stopping the clock with a final time of 1:53.38. Jorgensen (25.40),\u00a0Amanda Jorgensen\u00a0<\/strong>(26.68), Low (24.34) and\u00a0Guadalupi (24.19) were also victorious in the 4×50 free relay (1:40.61).<\/p>\n

Low dominated the 100 fly,\u00a0posting a time of 55.38 as the only swimmer under the one-minute barrier.\u00a0Messalonskee’s\u00a0Kenzie Burton\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 1:00.41 and Falmouth’s\u00a0Mae Causey\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:02.51. She also won the 100 back in 56.28 ahead of Scarborough’s\u00a0Charlotte Pratt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.10) and Waterville-Winslow’s\u00a0Leah Shoulta\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.63).<\/p>\n

Guadalupi (24.75) sprinted to first place in the 50 free, followed by\u00a0Scarborough teammates\u00a0Hannah Griffin\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>(25.08) and\u00a0Jane Greenberg\u00a0<\/strong>(25.77). She also won the 500 free (5:12.43) followed by Kennebunk’s\u00a0Isabel Harms\u00a0<\/strong>(5:22.43) and Scarborough’s\u00a0Morgan Porter\u00a0<\/strong>(5:24.16).<\/p>\n

Griffin\u00a0<\/b>cruised to first in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:11.58 to finish nearly five seconds ahead of runner-up\u00a0Caroline Arpin\u00a0<\/strong>(2:16.35) of Cheverus and her teammate\u00a0Emma MacDonald\u00a0<\/strong>(2:17.42).<\/p>\n

Talia Jorgensen earned the gold in the 100 free in a time of\u00a054.89. LEW’s\u00a0Brooke Cloutier\u00a0<\/strong>(55.66) was second and Pratt\u00a0<\/strong>(56.39) took third. SP’s\u00a0Molly Mawhinney\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 breast (1:09.18) while Cloutier (1:09.31) and Kennebunk’s\u00a0Grace Soucy\u00a0<\/strong>(1:12.03) finished second and third.<\/p>\n

Burton\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 free in 1:58.53. Porter\u00a0<\/strong>also dipped under the two-minute barrier to finish second in 1:59.70 and Talia Jorgensen took third in 2:00.26. Scarborough’s Porter (55.93), Greenberg (56.55),\u00a0MacDonald (57.19) and Griffin (54.68) teamed up to win the 4×100 free relay in 3:44.35.<\/p>\n

Bangor’s\u00a0Ella Stone\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 1-meter diving, earning first place with a final score of 415.45. Falmouth’s\u00a0Sophia Ham\u00a0<\/strong>dove to second with 360.60 points and Kennebunk’s\u00a0Taylor Nguyen\u00a0<\/strong>finished third with a score of 318.60.<\/p>\n

Bangor’s\u00a0Carson Prouty\u00a0<\/strong>(24.05),\u00a0Colby Prouty\u00a0<\/strong>(24.97),\u00a0Derek Irish\u00a0<\/strong>(24.59) and\u00a0Brenden Martin\u00a0<\/strong>(23.72) began the meet by dominating the 4×50 medley relay, winning the event by over four seconds with a time of 1:37.33. Their time eclipsed their own state and meet record of 1:37.61 set last year at this meet.\u00a0Carson Prouty (21.34),\u00a0Jeffrey Burns\u00a0<\/strong>(24.29), Irish (22.99) and Colby Prouty (21.73) also teamed up to give Bangor a win in the 4×50 free relay in 1:30.35.<\/p>\n

Cheverus’\u00a0Brim Peabody\u00a0<\/strong>won a close 200 free battle, touching the wall in 1:43.78 to out-touch Carson Prouty’s 1:43.81 as both swimmers finished well ahead of the rest of the field. Cheverus’\u00a0Phineas Underwood\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 1:50.20.<\/p>\n

Peabody, a freshman, later cruised to first in the 500 free, winning the race by 16 seconds in 4:47.41. Scarborough’s\u00a0Gavin McLeod\u00a0<\/strong>(5:03.37)\u00a0swam to second and Waterville-Winslow’s\u00a0John Reisert\u00a0<\/strong>(5:07.11) finished in third.<\/p>\n

After earning a silver in the 200 free, Carson Prouty earned his gold in the 100 back. The sophomore won with a quick 51.81, followed by Cony’s\u00a0Nathaniel Berry\u00a0<\/strong>(54.00) and Portland’s\u00a0Will Couture\u00a0<\/strong>(54.04).<\/p>\n

Colby Prouty, who will swim for UConn next year,\u00a0demolished the field in the 200 IM to win by nearly 13 seconds in 1:52.75. His time broke the previous meet record of 1:53.07 set back in 2013. Deering’s\u00a0Owen McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 2:05.06 and Cheverus’\u00a0Ben Adams\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 2:05.96 for third.<\/p>\n

Colby Prouty crushed his own state and meet record of 57.31 in the 100 breast en route to posting a final time of 56.17 for the win. Brunswick’s\u00a0Brian Hess\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 1:00.64 and Hampden’s\u00a0Cameron LaBree\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:03.83.<\/p>\n

Hess\u00a0<\/strong>won the 50 free in 21.87 as the only swimmer to crack the 22-second barrier.\u00a0Berry\u00a0<\/strong>(22.49) and Thornton Academy’s\u00a0Eli Steward\u00a0<\/strong>(22.50), were second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n

LaBree\u00a0<\/strong>powered his way to first place in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 53.22. Couture\u00a0<\/strong>got his hands on the wall in 53.39 for second and Messalonskee’s\u00a0Edmund Couture\u00a0<\/strong>swam a 54.77 for third.<\/p>\n

Brunswick’\u00a0Matt Yost\u00a0<\/strong>earned the gold in the 100 free, stopping the clock in a time of 4913. Steward (49.21) grabbed the silver while Underwood (50.22) snagged the bronze.<\/p>\n

Cheverus’ Underwood (50.55), Peabody (50.48),\u00a0Jeremy Baker\u00a0<\/strong>(53.94) and Adams (50.20) combined to win the 4×100 free relay in 3:25.17, just ahead of Brunswick’s 3:25.35.<\/p>\n

On the boards, Bucksport’s\u00a0Anthony Wardwell\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first in the 1-meter diving with a total score of 396.00.
