The Gators, led by <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>, totaled a stunning 1,237 points to finish more than 200 points ahead of runner-up Texas A&amp;M. But over in lane two, fellow Bulldog freshman\u00a0<strong>Courtney Harnish<\/strong> eased her way up and eventually moved past Anderson around the halfway point.<\/p>\n<p>Harnish dealt with a challenge from Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Ault<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>for much of the second half of the race but ended up pulling away to secure her first SEC conference title.<\/p>\n<p>Harnish touched in 15:57.68, while Ault came in at 16:03.36. Anderson took third in 16:07.73.<\/p>\n<p>Kentucky&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kathryn Painter\u00a0<\/strong>had the top time out of the afternoon heats, and her mark of 16:09.91, and the rest of the top Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Akram Mahmoud\u00a0<\/strong>has finished in the top three in the 1650 at each of the last two NCAA championships, so he was heavily favored to dominate the race at the SEC championships &#8212; which he did, after fending off an early challenge from Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Blake Manganiello<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After turning at the 1000-yard mark, Mahmoud accelerated his tempo, and he powered his way to a final time of 14:37.01, passing\u00a0<strong>Anton Ipsen\u00a0<\/strong>of NC State as the fastest swimmer in the country so far this season.<\/p>\n<p>Missouri&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jacob Wielinski\u00a0<\/strong>stormed home over the final third of the race to pass Manganiello and take second. Wielinski finished in 14:44.24, to Manganiello&#8217;s 14:46.19.<\/p>\n<p>The Gamecocks put up a massive point haul in the event as after Mahmoud,\u00a0<strong>Cody Bekemeyer\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth (14:48.58),\u00a0<strong>Brandonn Almeida<\/strong> took fifth (14:48.60) and\u00a0<strong>Rafael Davila\u00a0<\/strong>was sixth (14:51.39). For good measure,\u00a0<strong>Tom Peribonio\u00a0<\/strong>took tenth (14:55.79).<\/p>\n<p>Finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, were Florida&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ben Lawless\u00a0<\/strong>(14:52.03) and Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Josh Dannhauser\u00a0<\/strong>(14:52.29). Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Kentucky&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Asia Seidt\u00a0<\/strong>pulled off the backstroke sweep, adding a win in the 200-yard event to her earlier win in the 100, but she had to work to hold off a big push from Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lisa Bratton<\/strong>. Bratton took a slight lead at the 150, but Seidt fought back with exceptional underwater kickouts off the last two walls.<\/p>\n<p>Seidt finished in 1:49.65, just ahead of Bratton in 1:49.83.\u00a0<strong>Beata Nelson<\/strong> (1:49.59) is the only swimmer to go faster this season and the only other to break 1:50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ali Galyer\u00a0<\/strong>also got on the podium for Kentucky, finishing third in 1:50.63. But Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christopher Reid\u00a0<\/strong>stormed back and went by Acevedo over the final 75 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Reid finished in 1:39.42, while Acevedo touched in 1:40.11. Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong>, the 400 IM winner, was third in 1:40.82.<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Joey Reilman<\/strong> claimed third in 1:41.25, and Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jay Litherland\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth (1:41.64).
