The last day of the 2018 Women’s Big Ten Conference Championships were set up for an exciting finish as Michigan is once again the class of the conference getting the most second swims. Meet records have a chance to fall in a few events tonight as\u00a0Beata Nelson<\/strong>,\u00a0Lilly King<\/strong> and\u00a0Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>are the top seeds in their events.<\/p>\n

Below are the number of swims that each team will have tonight in the individual pool events. Michigan is still way ahead but the battle for second between Indiana, Minnesota and Ohio State will be one to keep an eye on as Ohio State had a good morning.<\/p>\n

    200 Back<\/h3>\n

    Wisconsin’s\u00a0Beata Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>leads a strong field in the 200 back with a 1:50.46 to break the Big Ten meet record that was a 1:50.60 held by Indiana’s Brooklynn Snodgrass\u00a0<\/strong>from 2015. Nelson has the chance to sweep the backstroke events after she won the 100 last night. She will be joined in the final by two other Badgers in\u00a0Jess Unicomb\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.99) and\u00a0Kathleen Coughlin\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.62).<\/p>\n

    Indiana’s\u00a0Kennedy Goss\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.12) and Michigan’s\u00a0Clara Smiddy\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.61) are the two defending champions as Smiddy won in 2016 and Goss won in 2017.<\/p>\n

    Michigan’s\u00a0Jacqueline Schafer\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.79), Minnesota’s\u00a0Tevyn Waddell\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.63) and Ohio State’s\u00a0Kristen Romano\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.65) will also swim in the championship final.<\/p>\n

    100 Free<\/h3>\n
    The 100 free is shaping up to be another good race as the winner of the 200,\u00a0Siobhan Haughey\u00a0<\/strong>of Michigan is seeded first with a 47.77, while the winner of the 50\u00a0Liz Li\u00a0<\/strong>of Ohio State is seeded third at 47.93. Michigan’s\u00a0Gabby DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>is in between both of them with a 47.86 from this morning. Li has the meet record that she set last year of 47.50, and the winner could definitely be coming home with that. Li and Haughey are going for their third title in the 100 tonight.<\/p>\n
    Michigan had two other girls make the A-final with\u00a0Catie DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>(48.27) and\u00a0Daria Pyshnenko\u00a0<\/strong>(48.77) seeded fourth and fifth. The Wolverines are well on their way to their third straight title as they are continuing to pile on the points by stacking up the A-finals with swimmers in maize and blue.<\/p>\n
    Minnesota’s\u00a0Zoe Avestruz\u00a0<\/strong>(49.05), Wisconsin’s\u00a0Marissa Berg\u00a0<\/strong>(49.09) and Ohio State’s\u00a0Macie McNichols\u00a0<\/strong>(49.12) will also swim in the championship final.<\/p>\n

    200 Breast<\/h3>\n
    Indiana’s\u00a0Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>is going for her third straight Big Ten title in the 200 breast as she leads the field by almost two full seconds. King swam a 2:06.38 on Saturday morning at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus. She is ahead of Minnesota’s\u00a0Lindsey Kozelsky\u00a0<\/strong>(2:08.05) and Michigan’s\u00a0Miranda Tucker\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.82).<\/p>\n
    King also just missed her own American Record last night in the 100 as she could potentially track down her 2:04.03 meet record she set last year. She has already indicated she has a lot left after she came home in a 30.56 after splitting 33’s.<\/p>\n
    Michigan’s\u00a0Emily Kopas\u00a0<\/strong>(2:09.91), Minnesota’s\u00a0Rachel Munson\u00a0<\/strong>(2:10.59), Ohio State’s\u00a0Hanna Gresser\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.01), Indiana’s\u00a0Laura Morley\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.35) and Northwestern’s\u00a0Sophie Angus\u00a0<\/strong>(2:11.41) will also swim in the championship final.<\/p>\n

    200 Fly<\/h3>\n
    The 200 fly final looks to be a wide open final after four time reigning champion\u00a0Gia Dalesandro\u00a0<\/strong>of Ohio State exhausted her eligibility. Michigan’s\u00a0Vanessa Krause\u00a0<\/strong>is the top seed at 1:55.02 and Ohio State’s\u00a0Meg Bailey\u00a0<\/strong>is second in her home pool at 1:55.36. Purdue senior\u00a0Emmy Rawson\u00a0<\/strong>is the third seed at 1:55.95 and could be the spoiler.<\/p>\n
    Michigan’s\u00a0Sierra Schmidt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:55.99) will be coming off the 1650 earlier in the session so that may or may not affect her by the time the 200 fly final comes around at the end of the session.<\/p>\n
    Minnesota’s\u00a0Danielle Nack\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.43), Indiana’s\u00a0Shelby Koontz\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.89), Rutgers’\u00a0Francesca Stoppa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.90) and Purdue’s\u00a0Taite Kitchel\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.91) will also swim in the championship final as Koontz will be looking to extend IU’s 200 fly winning tradition.<\/p>\n
