A total of three records fell on the third day\u00a0of the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association men’s and women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.<\/p>\n
Heading into the final day of competition, the William and Mary men (619) have a comfortable lead over Drexel (518).\u00a0James Madison (418) has a narrow lead over William and Mary (407) on the women’s side.<\/p>\n
William and Mary’s\u00a0Morgan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>knocked off another two seconds from her morning swim to win the CAA 400 IM crown this evening. The junior posted a time of 4:19.88 for the win.<\/p>\n James Madison took\u00a0the next two spots:\u00a0Abby Ortman\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 4:22.93 while teammate\u00a0Katie Parker\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 4:23.28.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Julia Bland\u00a0<\/strong>(4:23.42), Towson’s\u00a0Kendall Krumenacker\u00a0<\/strong>(4:24.00), UNCW’s\u00a0Kyra Schemmel\u00a0<\/strong>(4:25.69), Towson’s\u00a0Karlee Carminati\u00a0<\/strong>(4:26.71) and Drexel’s\u00a0April Forsthoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(4:28.27) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n William and Mary had five swimmers in the top heat and\u00a0Ben Skopic\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to victory, winning the event in 3:50.17. The William and Mary sophomore stopped the clock in 3:50.17.<\/p>\n Towson’s\u00a0Colin Roddy\u00a0<\/strong>swam to second in 3:53.04 and William and Mary’s\u00a0Ian Bidwell\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 3:54.20.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Conrad Zamparello\u00a0<\/strong>(3:54.21), William and Mary’s\u00a0Chris Balbo\u00a0<\/strong>(3:54.46), Delaware’s\u00a0Patrick Savidge\u00a0<\/strong>(3:57.21), Drexel’s\u00a0Jon Pat Ransom\u00a0<\/strong>(3:58.57) and William and Mary’s\u00a0Brett Barden\u00a0<\/strong>(4:01.62) also competed in the A-final.<\/p>\n Northeastern’s\u00a0Sara Touchette-McGowan\u00a0<\/strong>led the way of three women under the 55-second barrier, winning the event in 54.30.\u00a0The senior’s time met the NCAA B standard.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Abby Mack\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 54.83 and UNCW’s\u00a0Viv Louviere\u00a0<\/strong>took a close third in 54.95.<\/p>\n Delaware’s\u00a0Tessa Hayman\u00a0<\/strong>(55.23), William and Mary’s\u00a0Maria Oceguera\u00a0<\/strong>(55.59), Towson’s\u00a0Megan Cowan\u00a0<\/strong>(55.75), Drexel’s\u00a0Charlotte Myers\u00a0<\/strong>(55.86) and Drexel’s\u00a0Hollie Hopf\u00a0<\/strong>(56.86) were also in the top eight.<\/p>\n Jack Saunderson\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the men’s 100 fly, winning the event by 2.5 seconds.\u00a0The Towson junior\u00a0touched the wall in a quick 45.75, crushing his own CAA meet and all-time record of 47.01 set at this meet last year. His swim was only 0.26 off the NCAA A standard.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Jack Doherty\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 48.17 while his teammate\u00a0Ian Thompson\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 48.35.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Tommy Kealy<\/strong> (48.55), UNCW’s\u00a0Connor Forsythe\u00a0<\/strong>(48.75), Drexel’s\u00a0Joe Short\u00a0<\/strong>(49.03), William and Mary’s\u00a0Joey Rento\u00a0<\/strong>(49.34) and Drexel’s\u00a0Spencer Hill\u00a0<\/strong>(50.02) rounded out the final heat.<\/p>\n Northeastern’s\u00a0Megan Clark\u00a0<\/strong>won her second individual CAA title of the weekend, winning the event in 1:47.20. The sophomore took it out fast but was able to hold on for the win.<\/p>\n James Madison’s\u00a0Bonnie Zhang\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 1:47.90 for second place while her teammate\u00a0Quinn MacMillan\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 1:48.46 for third.<\/p>\n James Madison’s\u00a0Kristie Darmody\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.87), Drexel’s\u00a0Tanja Kirmse\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.00), William and Mary’s\u00a0Megan Bull\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.19), Towson’s\u00a0Annemarie Schnoor\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.34) and James Madison’s\u00a0Julianna Jones\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.48) completed the A-final.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In a close race for the CAA men’s 200 free win, Drexel’s\u00a0Stithies Malamas\u00a0<\/strong>edged out the runner-up for the title. The sophomore won the event in 1:37.55, fast enough for an NCAA B standard.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Colin Wright\u00a0<\/strong>took a close second in 1:37.80 and Drexel’s\u00a0Patrick Cobb\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 1:38.52.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Eric Grimes\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.55), UNCW’s\u00a0Jack Cosgrove\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.73), William and Mary’s\u00a0Kyle Neri\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.92), Drexel’s\u00a0Luke Hanner\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.85) and William and Mary’s\u00a0Christopher Pfuhl\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.94) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n In one of the closest races of the evening, Towson’s\u00a0Jaclyn Schoening\u00a0<\/strong>got her hands to the wall first for the win. The sophomore posted a final time of 1:01.67 with less than three tenths between first and third.<\/p>\n Drexel’s\u00a0Gab Rudy\u00a0<\/strong>finished a close second in 1:01.78 and Northeastern’s\u00a0Klara Juliusson\u00a0<\/strong>wasn’t too behind in 1:01.96 for third.<\/p>\n UNCW’s\u00a0Meagan Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.07), James Madison’s\u00a0Megan Marsh\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.72), Towson’s\u00a0Amanda Rosa\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.27), William and Mary’s\u00a0Jasmine Harper\u00a0<\/strong>(1:04.65) and Northeastern’s\u00a0Matilda Weiler\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.35) completed the fastest heat.<\/p>\n Drexel took the top two spots in the men’s 100 breast with only .03 separating the two teammates.\u00a0Ralph Cannarozzi III\u00a0<\/strong>ultimately\u00a0got his hands to the wall first in a time of\u00a054.86.<\/p>\n His teammate\u00a0Joseph Brown\u00a0<\/strong>was right behind him, taking second in 54.89. UNCW’s\u00a0Gianmichel D’Alessandro\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 55.11.<\/p>\n UNCW’s\u00a0Ben Whitty\u00a0<\/strong>(55.37), William and Mary’s\u00a0Devin McNulty\u00a0<\/strong>(55.53), William and Mary’s\u00a0Brooks Peterson\u00a0<\/strong>(56.07), Delaware’s\u00a0Brandon Evers\u00a0<\/strong>(57.16) and Drexel’s\u00a0Harrison Schultz\u00a0<\/strong>(56.28) were also in the top eight.<\/p>\n Alex Kutch\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the women’s 100 back, winning the event by over two full seconds. The Drexel sophomore won the gold in 52.99.\u00a0Kutch broke her own CAA meet and all-time record this morning during prelims in 52.95.<\/p>\n Drexel’s\u00a0Alicia Diaz\u00a0<\/strong>won the silver in 55.13 and William and Mary’s\u00a0Katie Sell\u00a0<\/strong>won bronze in 55.23.<\/p>\n James Madison’s\u00a0Abby Ortman\u00a0<\/strong>(55.55), Towson’s\u00a0Haley Sutton\u00a0<\/strong>(55.58), Northeastern’s\u00a0Sidney Smith\u00a0<\/strong>(55.89), Towson’s\u00a0Jacy Icard\u00a0<\/strong>(56.09) and Northeastern’s\u00a0Christine Leong\u00a0<\/strong>(56.24) rounded out the top heat.<\/p>\n Drexel’s Jason Arthur\u00a0<\/strong>won the final individual race of\u00a0the evening in yet another close finish. The sophomore got his hand to the wall in 48.10 for the win.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Colin Demers\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 48.24 and his teammate\u00a0Jake Kealy\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 49.15.<\/p>\n William and Mary’s\u00a0Lee Bradley\u00a0<\/strong>(49.33), Towson’s\u00a0Erek Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>(49.50), William and Mary’s\u00a0Wyatt Grubb\u00a0<\/strong>(49.54), Delaware’s\u00a0Asher Kiely\u00a0<\/strong>(50.12) and Towson’s\u00a0Zach Bishop\u00a0<\/strong>(50.35) also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n Drexel’s\u00a0Anthony Musciano\u00a0<\/strong>won his second diving title of these CAA Championships, this time on the 3-meter board. The sophomore posted a final score of 306.75 for gold.<\/p>\n UNCW’s\u00a0Seth O’Dea\u00a0<\/strong>dove to silver with 299.40 points while Towson’s\u00a0Will Canny\u00a0<\/strong>earned bronze with a score of 290.35.<\/p>\n Delaware’s\u00a0Jacob Lukens\u00a0<\/strong>(276.20), Drexel’s\u00a0Simon Carne\u00a0<\/strong>(263.20), UNCW’s\u00a0Trent Igoe\u00a0<\/strong>(261.95), Towson’s\u00a0John Casey\u00a0<\/strong>(241.40) and Drexel’s\u00a0Joel Keefer\u00a0<\/strong>(235.55) also dove in the top eight.<\/p>\n Northeastern’s\u00a0Christine Leong\u00a0<\/strong>(56.21),\u00a0Klara Juliusson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.71),\u00a0Sara Touchette-McGowan\u00a0<\/strong>(51.66) and\u00a0Megan Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(50.68) swam their way to gold in a time of 3:40.26. This is the second relay the Huskies have won this meet.<\/p>\n Drexel finished second in 3:42.35 and Towson was a close third in 3:42.39.<\/p>\n The top two finishers were both under the CAA meet and all-time record, but William and Mary got their hand to the wall first for the title.\u00a0Colin Demers\u00a0<\/strong>(48.36),\u00a0Devin McNulty\u00a0<\/strong>(53.33),\u00a0Jack Doherty\u00a0<\/strong>(48.10) and\u00a0Colin Wright\u00a0<\/strong>(43.50) are the new record-holders in 3:13.29. They eclipsed their own record set back in 2015.<\/p>\n Towson was also under the previous record with their 3:13.56 for second.
