He led wire-to-wire and recorded a time of 1:38.21, more than a second quicker than\u00a0<strong>David Nolan&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>previous American record of 1:39.38 set back in 2015. Nolan&#8217;s time was also the NCAA and U.S. Open record.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel was out under Nolan&#8217;s record pace, 21.03 to 21.67, before falling slightly behind after the backstroke leg. But from there, he took off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nolan&#8217;s splits:<\/strong> 21.67, 45.99 (24.32), 1:15.20 (29.21), 1:39.18 (24.18)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dressel&#8217;s splits:\u00a0<\/strong>21.03, 46.04 (25.01), 1:14.41 (28.37), 1:38.13 (23.72)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Final 2018 SEC Men&#039;s 200 IM\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W7l4qMGv8gk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Dressel won the race by more than 2.5 seconds, but despite that massive margin, the men that finished behind him rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the country, respectively. Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hugo Gonzalez\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 1:40.67, and Dressel&#8217;s Gator teammate\u00a0<strong>Mark Szaranek\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:41.00.
