The 2018 Mountain West Conference Swimming and Diving Championships began today at the Palo Alto College Aquatic Center. Nevada’s\u00a0Sharae Zheng,<\/strong> who was named the NCAA Diver of the Year in 2016, dominated the 1-meter diving event to highlight the first day of competition.<\/p>\n

After the first three events, San Diego and Nevada are tied for\u00a0first place with 189 points. Wyoming is in third with 161 points followed by Boise State (135), New Mexico (128), San Jose State (119), UNLV (115), Fresno State (106), Air Force (98) and Colorado State (98).<\/p>\n

Women’s 4×50 Medley Relay<\/h2>\n

The first event of the Mountain West Championships proved to be a close one. Boise State’s\u00a0Allyson Kleinsorgen\u00a0<\/strong>(24.52),\u00a0Robin Pinger\u00a0<\/strong>(27.77),\u00a0Emmie Jennings\u00a0<\/strong>(23.95) and\u00a0Abbey Sorensen\u00a0<\/strong>(21.99) won the event in 1:38.23.<\/p>\n

San Diego State’s\u00a0Alma Thormalm<\/strong>,\u00a0Caitlin Delany, Summer Harrison,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Klara Thormalm\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 1:38.69 while San Jose State’s\u00a0Colleen Humel, Shona Spikes, Brenna Bushey,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Brittany Heng\u00a0<\/strong>took a close third in 1:38.86.<\/p>\n

Wyoming (1:39.42), Air Force (1:39.66), Colorado State (1:39.77), Nevada (1:40.61) and New Mexico (1:41.05) completed the top eight.<\/p>\n

Women’s\u00a01-Meter Diving<\/h2>\n
Nevada’s\u00a0Sharae Zheng\u00a0<\/strong>defended her 1-meter diving title, winning for the third-straight year with a score of 352.41. Zheng was last year’s Mountain West Diver of the Year and earned All-America honors for two top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n
Wyoming’s\u00a0Karla Contreras\u00a0<\/strong>dove to second with a final score of 312.84. Zheng’s teammate\u00a0Zoe Lei\u00a0<\/strong>finished third with 300.48 points.<\/p>\n
Wyoming’s\u00a0Ceejay Harris\u00a0<\/strong>(289.20), UNLV’s\u00a0Mykayla Fielding\u00a0<\/strong>(286.02), San Diego’s\u00a0Alexandra Caplan\u00a0<\/strong>(283.38), San Diego’s\u00a0Marie Yacopino\u00a0<\/strong>(265.14) and Fresno State’s\u00a0Irina Nikolaeva\u00a0<\/strong>(262.56) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n
