During the first night of the SEC championships in College Station, Texas, Florida’s\u00a0Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>and Tennessee’s\u00a0Erika Brown\u00a0<\/strong>each posted eye-popping splits to lead their teams to victories in their respective 200 medley relays.<\/p>\n

With four full days of competition to come, the Texas A&M women have the lead in the team race with 160 points, followed by South Carolina (142) and Tennessee (136).\u00a0The Aggie men also had the lead, with 189 points, ahead of Tennessee (174) and Kentucky (151). Florida, which won both relays but did not show well in diving, are fourth with 135 points.<\/p>\n

Women’s 1-meter Diving<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Arkansas’\u00a0Brooke Schultz<\/strong> took the first win of the meet, scoring 363.45 points to easily out-pace the runner-up, LSU’s\u00a0Elizabeth Cui<\/strong>. Cui scored 330.00 points. A pair of Schultz’s Razorback teammates,\u00a0Nicole Gillis\u00a0<\/strong>(323.85) and\u00a0Maha Amer\u00a0<\/strong>(322.35), finished third and fourth, respectively.<\/p>\n

South Carolina’s\u00a0Julia Vincent\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth (317.50), followed by Missouri’s\u00a0Kendra Kieser\u00a0<\/strong>(316.50), Auburn’s\u00a0Alison Maillard\u00a0<\/strong>(315.40) and Texas A&M’s\u00a0Charlye Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>(271.30).<\/p>\n

Women’s 4×50 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Texas A&M held the lead for most of the meet’s first event after breaststroker\u00a0Jorie Caneta\u00a0<\/strong>put the Aggies into the lead, but Tennessee’s\u00a0Maddy Banic\u00a0<\/strong>(fly) and\u00a0Erika Brown\u00a0<\/strong>(free) stormed home to pick up the victory. The Volunteers, with\u00a0Micah Bohon<\/strong> (24.33), Tjasa Pintar\u00a0<\/strong>(27.13), Banic (22.84) and Brown anchoring in an insane 20.81, touched in 1:35.21. That time ranks third in the country this season.<\/p>\n

A&M held on for second in 1:35.54, the No. 4 time nationally this year. In addition to Caneta,\u00a0Lisa Bratton<\/strong>,\u00a0Jing Quah<\/strong> and\u00a0Raena Eldridge\u00a0<\/strong>swam on that squad. Auburn finished third in 1:36.33 with\u00a0Erin Falconer<\/strong>,\u00a0Carly Cummings<\/strong>,\u00a0Haley Black\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Aly Tetzloff<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Alabama (1:36.81), Florida (1:37.16), Kentucky (1:37.24), Georgia (1:37.27) and Vanderbilt (1:39.12) rounded out the top eight.<\/p>\n

Men’s 4×50 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Florida senior\u00a0Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>opened up his last SEC championships with a monster anchor leg on the Gators\u2019 200 medley relay team. In third place when he dove in, Dressel split 17.92 to give Florida the win, touching in 1:22.94 to touch out Tennessee.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s not the fastest split of his career, as Dressel twice swam in the 17.8-range last season, but he will have plenty of opportunities to swim faster at both the SEC and NCAA championship meets.<\/p>\n
In addition to Dressel, Florida\u2019s winning team consisted of backstroker\u00a0Michael Taylor<\/strong> (21.11),\u00a0breaststroker\u00a0Chandler Bray<\/strong>\u00a0(23.75) and flyer\u00a0Jan Switkowski<\/strong> (20.16). Their final time ranks No. 1 in the country this season.<\/p>\n
The Volunteers took second in 1:23.02 with a team of\u00a0Braga Verhage<\/strong>,\u00a0Peter John Stevens<\/strong>,\u00a0Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> and\u00a0Kyle Decoursey<\/strong>, and Alabama was third in 1:23.58 with\u00a0Luke Kaliszak<\/strong>,\u00a0Laurent Bams<\/strong>,\u00a0Zane Waddell<\/strong> and\u00a0Robert Howard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Texas A&M (1:24.19),\u00a0Auburn (1:24.59), Georgia (1:25.06), Missouri (1:25.58) and Kentucky (1:25.69) also finished among the top eight.<\/p>\n

Texas A&M’s\u00a0Tyler Henschel<\/strong> dominated the first men’s diving event of the meet, finishing with a score of 469.05 to crush the second-place score of 428.75 recorded by LSU’s\u00a0Juan Hernandez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Kentucky’s\u00a0Sebastian Masterton<\/strong> took third in 426.05, followed by the Tennessee duo of\u00a0Zhipeng\u00a0<\/strong>Zeng\u00a0<\/strong>(400.25) and\u00a0Liam Stone\u00a0<\/strong>(394.70). Others in the final were Texas A&M’s\u00a0Sam Thornton\u00a0<\/strong>(385.65), Kentucky’s\u00a0Kevin Frebel\u00a0<\/strong>(378.60) and Missouri’s\u00a0Kyle Goodwin<\/strong> (378.45).<\/p>\n

Women’s 4×200 Free Relay<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Just an hour after her sweltering 20.81 anchor split on the medley relay Tennessee’s\u00a0Erika Brown<\/strong> opened up a big lead for the Volunteers on the opening leg of this event, splitting 1:43.54, and\u00a0Stanzi Moseley\u00a0<\/strong>and Tess Cieplucha\u00a0<\/b>held onto that advantage. But Texas A&M held tough, and the Aggies’\u00a0Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> tracked down and passed Tennessee’s\u00a0Micah Bohon<\/strong> on the anchor leg to take the win.<\/p>\n
The Aggies’ team of Katie Portz<\/b>\u00a0(1:44.74),\u00a0Claire Rasmus<\/strong> (1:43.79), Kristin Malone<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.09) and Pickrem (1:42.98) finished in 6:55.60. Georgia, meanwhile, took second as\u00a0Meaghan Raab\u00a0<\/strong>split 1:43.69\u00a0on the anchor leg to finish ahead of Tennessee, 6:58.58 to 6:58.85. The Bulldogs’ team also included\u00a0Veronica Burchill<\/strong>,\u00a0Courtney Harnish<\/strong> and\u00a0Jordan Stout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Other teams finishing in the top eight included Kentucky (7:00.21), Missouri (7:01.01), Florida (7:02.30), South Carolina (7:03.37) and Auburn (7:05.26) also finished among the top eight.<\/p>\n
