MECHANICSBURG, Pennsylvania, February 16.BOTH of West Chester's relay teams captured first place in the men's and women's 200 medley relay events and individual Golden Rams also captured the titles in the men's and women's 1000 freestyle races to guide both the Golden Ram men's and women's team out to big leads on the first night of the PSAC Swimming Championship.<\/p>\n
The women's team accumulated 121 points in the two events and leads second place Bloomsburg by 75 points. The men have 85 and lead second place Gannon by 36. <\/p>\n
The Golden Ram women's 200 medley relay team edged out second place Edinboro by just .20 of a second in 1:45.55. The men's team of Calvin Starosta, David McCormick, Ryan Stahley and Alex Muraro set a new PSAC championship and overall record by winning in 1:31.31. <\/p>\n
In the women's 1000 free, West Chester took the top three spots as Alexis Walley won in 10:12.20 and was followed by teammates Kacie McNichol and Codyanne Murtaugh. The trio was separated by just under six seconds from first to third place. West Chester also had the fifth and ninth place finishers, giving them half of the top 10. In the men's 1000 free, Jared Haley and Tommy Rhoads of West Chester distanced themselves from the field as both broke the PSAC championship record. Haley won in 9:22.98 while Rhoads, the 2010 PSAC champion in this event, took second in 9:24.83. The third place finisher, Bloomsburg's Brandon Sherbo, touched the wall in 9:35.60. Haley and Rhoads both broke the previous championship record of 9:26.52, which was just set last year.<\/p>\n
