JENISON, Michigan, February 10. THE Wayne State University women's team and the Grand Valley State University men's team are in the lead after Day 3 of the 2012 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, being held at the Jenison Aquatics Center in Jenison, Mich.<\/p>\n
Friday's finals session started with Wayne State University freshman Kei Cze Prentis placing first in the 400-yard individual medley with an NCAA "B" cut time of 4:27.73. Two swimmers attained NCAA "A" cuts in the men's 400-yard individual medley, led by Wayne State junior Joaquin Abascal Gallegos, who finished first with a time of 3:55.78, and University of Indianapolis junior Daniel Chan, who finished second with a time of 3:56.25.<\/p>\n
A total of seven swimmers earned "B" cuts in the women's 100-yard butterfly. Wayne State freshman Gloria Martin Perez finished first with a time of 55.91. Grand Valley State senior Aaron Beebe placed first in the men's 100-yard butterfly with an "A" cut time of 47.71. All eight finalists recorded NCAA "B" cuts or better in the event.<\/p>\n
UIndy junior Maura Donahue led a group of seven swimmers who earned "B" cuts at in the women's 200-yard freestyle finals when she posted a time of 1:50.68. WSU senior Andrey Seryy claimed the men's 200-yard freestyle crown with an "A" cut and GLIAC Championships record time of 1:37.37.<\/p>\n
Wayne State sophomore Kayla Scott won the women's 100-yard breaststroke with an "A" cut time of 1:02.14, while Ashland University junior Cheyne Fisher took the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a "B" cut time of 54.82.<\/p>\n
Ashland junior Julie Widmann placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a "B" cut time of 55.66, while GVSU senior Raphael Santos claimed the men's 100-yard backstroke with a "B" cut time of 49.16.<\/p>\n
Wayne State took two of the top three places in the women's one-meter diving event as WSU junior Carly Sevald placed first with 423.05 points, while junior Emily Mitzelfeld took third with 404.40 points.<\/p>\n
The Wayne State 800-yard freestyle relay team took the event final in an NCAA "A" cut time of 7:38.80, the GVSU took the crown in the men's 800-yard freestyle relay with a GLIAC Championship and pool record time of 6:39.19.<\/p>\n
The 2012 GLIAC Swimming and Diving Championships resume Saturday morning with the Day four preliminaries.<\/p>\n
