WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania, February 10. A three-horse race is developing at the Middle Atlantic Conference women's swimming championships, as Albright is one of three teams within 21 points at the top after the first day of competition.<\/p>\n
The Lions are third with 167 points after five events. Defending champion Widener has 188 points, just ahead of Misericordia (183.5 points).<\/p>\n
Freshman Amanda Osterlind was second in the 500 free, with a time of 5:15.26. She was beaten only by Widener's Kelsey Lake, who set a new pool record in the process (5:09.98). Another Albright freshman, Gwen Stefan, was fourth in 5:15.90, with three swimmers separated by less than a second in the distance event.<\/p>\n
In the B final of the 500 free, Kaitlyn Huizing was 10th (5:27.74) and Katy Oeste was 14th (5:33.65).<\/p>\n
Aimee Snyder (2:13.88) and Madison Hauk (2:15.37) went 4-5 in the 200 IM to pick up 29 more points for the Lions. Widener's Laura Farrar won the event, breaking Albright alumni Rachel Cantwell's seven year-old championships record in the process. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Codi Herr was third in the 50 free, in 24.83. Tricia Janowiak took sixth (25.55), while Widener's Laura Harris (24.01) completed a Pride sweep of Friday's individual events. Adina Gaughran was 16th to grab a point for Albright.<\/p>\n
Albright took second and third in the day's relays. Herr, Janowiak, Gaughran and Snyder swam 1:40.61 in the 200 free relay for second place, and Huizing, Kari Keller, Hauk and Snyder were third in the 400 medley relay (4:05.68). Misericordia took both events.<\/p>\n
The meet resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow with Saturday's preliminaries.<\/p>\n
