KINGSTON, Rhode Island, January 28. THE University of Vermont swimming and diving team held off Rhode Island on Saturday on the road, earning a 155-145 victory. Junior Chelsea Krisanda led the Catamounts with a pair of wins, while Vermont also went 1-2-3 in both diving events to improve to 8-4 on the season.<\/p>\n
"In a meet that featured four lead changes today, our ladies showed how tough they were when things were not going our way," said Vermont head coach Gerry Cournoyer. "Today was a good win for us and I am proud of the team."<\/p>\n
Krisanda placed first in both the 200 butterfly (2:08.55) and helped the Catamounts secure the win with a victory in the 200 IM (2:11.41). The 200 IM was the second to last event of the meet, as the Krisanda win gave UVM a 151-132 advantage going into the final relay.<\/p>\n
Senior Meaghan Cunningham helped the Catamounts take the top three spots in the one meter dive, winning the event with a score of 223.79 and was followed by teammates Melissa Wheeler and Lauren Colby. In the three meter dive it was Colby winning the event with a total of 246.22 points, while Cunningham was second and Wheeler third.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Taylor Slone earned a win in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:50.55 and was followed in second and third by teammates Kailey Gardner and Emily Healy. Gardner would keep her streak going of winning at least one individual event in every meet this season by finishing first in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.90.<\/p>\n
A pair of Catamount freshmen also earned victories on the day, as Laura Stephens won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.28 and Ilsa Feierabend took the top spot in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.61.<\/p>\n
Saturday marked the final dual meet of the season for Vermont, as part of the squad will next compete at the Middlebury Invitational on February 3-4. <\/p>\n
