HOUSTON, Texas, January 28. THE LSU women's Swimming and Diving team (5-3, 1-1 SEC) wrapped up its final dual-meet of the season in emphatic fashion by sweeping Houston, Rice and Tulane in a two-day quad-meet hosted at Houston's CRWC Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Tigers defeated Houston (211.00-161.00), Rice (228.50-125.50) and Tulane (264.50-98.50) in the final tune up before the SEC Championships that begin Feb. 15 in Auburn, Ala.<\/p>\n
"It was great to finish out the season with a few more dual meet wins," Swimming Coach Dave Geyer said. "We were able to set the tone with a win in the medley relay again and then another 1-2-3 finish in the backstroke event. At this point it is time to let our bodies recover and get ready for the conference championship in 18 days."<\/p>\n
LSU responded in Day two and showed their grit in victory without team leaders senior Samantha Goates and juniors Amanda Kendall and Sara Haley.<\/p>\n
The Tigers emerged victoriously in the medley relay again, this time the 400 behind strong swims by Kaetlin Sepp, Torrey Bussey, Amber Carter and Rainey White (3:49.17).<\/p>\n
Bussey climbed atop the podium for her fourth victory over the weekend after a mark of 1:03.98 in the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n
The Tigers swept the 100 back behind the trio of junior Jana Ruimerman (2:02.41), freshman Jennifer Reese (2:04.14) and Sepp (2:04.24).<\/p>\n
Junior Sally Wood notched her second individual medley victory of the competition with a time of 4:21.75 in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n
Junior Audrey Lawson touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly with a mark of 2:02.74.<\/p>\n
LSU's divers competed in the platform event as an exhibition event. Freshman Alex Bettridge earned a score of 222.95 and junior Elle Schmidt achieved a score of 218.80.<\/p>\n
"Although the platform event was an exhibition, it was good experience for us," Diving Coach Doug Shaffer said. "We competed well and performed at a level which would score at the conference championships."<\/p>\n
