TOWSON, Maryland, January 27. TOWSON (9-1, 4-0 CAA) won its fourth straight meet Friday, earning a home victory over the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays by a score of 172-117.
\nKaitlin Burke won the 50 and 200-yard freestyle events Friday for Towson. Her time of 24.63 won the 50-yard freestyle and she posted a time of 1:53.79 in the 200-yard freestyle, defeating Sarah Rinsma of Johns Hopkins by over three seconds.<\/p>\n
"The women did a great job of winning the meet," Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. "Some of our girls did a very good job of stepping up and getting to the wall first."<\/p>\n
Senior Cari Czarnecki won the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events for the Tigers. Czarnecki clocked a 2:23.55 time in the 200-yard event and a 1:06.15 time in the 100-yard event. Junior Kelsey Rouse finished second in both events for theTigers.<\/p>\n
The Tigers have a quick turnaround before a meet at Old Dominion Saturday in a battle of Colonial Athletic Association squads. The meet begins at 1 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.<\/p>\n
The Johns Hopkins Blue Jays made the short trip to Burdick Pool Friday for a meet with Towson and came away with a 148-127 victory over the Tigers in the first of two meets scheduled this weekend for Towson.<\/p>\n
Nick Schmidt won the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle for the Blue Jays, who have now won five straight meets.<\/p>\n
The Tigers had a great deal of success in the distance events Friday, as Towson (3-7, 1-3 CAA) possessed the top three finishers in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,000 yard freestyle.<\/p>\n
Zack Stone won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:45.87 and Matt Lowe was right behind with a 4:45.93 finish for the Tigers. Matt Collingwood took third place in the event for the Towson.<\/p>\n
"Matt Lowe continues to impress me," Towson Head Coach Pat Mead said. "He is consistently swimming fast week-in and week-out, and he's swimming the distance events, which is a hard thing to do, mentally and physically."<\/p>\n
In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Wes Foltz won the event with a time of 9:43.63. Lowe finished second, while Philip Forrester finished in third place.<\/p>\n
