After a\u00a0sizable\u00a0upset last night, the University of Texas men’s swimming and diving team was back in the water again, this time to face the Wildcats from University of Arizona. West Virginia hosted the Villanova men and women while also hosting the women’s only team from Iowa State University.<\/p>\n

Here’s a closer look at the weekend action around the Big 12 conference:<\/p>\n

Texas vs. Arizona<\/h3>\n

The Texas men were able to bounce back after a tough loss\u00a0against\u00a0ASU last night,\u00a0and win the meet with a score of 155-143 while the lady Longhorns continued their undefeated season by\u00a0swimming past the Wildcats with a score of 170-129.<\/p>\n

Both the men’s and women’s teams at Texas secured wins in the opening event, the 200 medley relay. The ladies opened up the meet by putting together a 1:40.02 while the men secured the win in 1:28.92.<\/p>\n

Townley Haas<\/strong> was the next Longhorn to win an event and he did so in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.47, which was very similar to the time he put up yesterday versus ASU, showing his consistency in the event.<\/p>\n

Longhorn Claire Adams<\/strong> took the women’s 100 backstroke in 53.46 while senior Jonathan Roberts<\/strong> nabbed the number one time in the men’s race with his time of 48:72.<\/p>\n

Lady Longhorn duo of Remedy Rule<\/strong> and Lauren Case<\/strong> swept the 200 butterfly by posting times of 1:58.14 and 2:00.85, respectively.<\/p>\n

Senior sprinter Brett Ringgold<\/strong> followed his 50 freestyle win from yesterday with another win in the same event today. Ringgold touched the wall in 20.57. Ringgold would go on to win the 100 freestyle as well in a solid time of 44.38.<\/p>\n

Junior Quinn Carrozza<\/strong> followed up her impressive swims from yesterday’s meet with a win in the 200 backstroke. Carrozza swam a time of 1:56.85 to earn that win.<\/p>\n

Up next for the Longhorns will be a dual with TCU next weekend.<\/p>\n

WVU vs. Villanova and Iowa State (women only)<\/h3>\n

The WVU men defeated Villanova by a score of 229-69 while the women fell to Villanova by 163-137. The lady Mountaineers were able to defeat Iowa State though, with a score of 160-140 over the Cyclones.<\/p>\n

It was senior day in Morgantown, so the seniors were looking to drop big swims on their final home meet.<\/p>\n

Head Coach Vic Riggs<\/strong> told WVU Communications\u00a0that his athletes “just didn’t capitalize on a few events”. Riggs did seem hopeful for their very next competition, the Big 12 Conference Championships, due to a massive swim by the men on the 400 medley relay, “the men continue to compete very well, and to finish the season with another pool record and to go undefeated is a great way to send them into Big 12s”, said Riggs.<\/p>\n

Some notable swims came from a 1-2 finish in the men’s 200 freestyle, which was led by Trayton Saladin<\/strong> in a time of\u00a01:41.23, followed by senior Nate Carr<\/strong> who touched in 1:41.29.<\/p>\n

Carr’s sister, Morgan Carr<\/strong>, followed in her older brother’s footsteps by taking the win in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:04.47.<\/p>\n

Continuing their dominance, the WVU men took a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the men’s 100 breaststroke. Junior Jake Armstrong<\/strong> put together a solid swim of a 55.85 to nab the win while Tristen DiSibio<\/strong> touched second in a quick 56.22.<\/p>\n

Up next for the Mountaineers will be the Big 12 Championships in Austin, Texas. The Iowa State Cyclones will face the Kansas University Jayhawks next weekend before heading to Austin for Big 12’s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
