NOTRE DAME, Ind., Oct. 23. THE University of Notre Dame women's swimming and diving team won its third dual meet in as many tries with a 176-86 victory over Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla., on Tuesday. <\/p>\n
The Irish swept 11 of 13 events (there were no diving events in the meet) to earn the meet title, led by multiple winners Kelly Hecking and Carrie Nixon.<\/p>\n
Nixon, who is back for a fifth year after sitting out last season with an injured shoulder, continues to dominate her respective races. She has not been beaten in six races this season, including the 100 freestyle (52.34) and 100 butterfly (56.98) against Florida Atlantic.<\/p>\n
Hecking has been equally impressive, as her victories in the 100 and 200 backstroke versus the Owls on Tuesday are her fourth and fifth individual titles of the season.<\/p>\n
Notre Dame's freshman class continued to impress against Florida Atlantic, as Kelli Barton (1,000 freestyle) and Katie Eckholt (50 freestyle) both raced to wins. Another new face to the Irish roster, transfer Heidi Hendrick, won her first race with the Irish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.25).<\/p>\n
Lisa Garcia continued to show her flexibility, earning
\nvictories in the 200 individual medley (2:06.95) and finishing second behind Barton in the 1,000 free. Laurie Musgrave won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.44) and finished second to teammate Allison Lloyd in the 200 breast. <\/p>\n
The team will remain in Florida to continue training during Notre Dame's fall break. The Irish will be back in action in a dual meet with Purdue at Rolfs Aquatic Center on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
