BALTIMORE, Maryland, January 20. THE Johns Hopkins men's swim team won the first eight events and then swam exhibitions in the final three in a 117-73 win over visiting St. Mary's. The Blue Jays not only won the first eight events, but they claimed the top two spots in seven of the eight. Hopkins remains unbeaten and improves to 5-0 while St. Mary's falls to 11-3.<\/p>\n
Hopkins opened the meet with the 200 Medley Relay as the team of freshmen Brad Hunt, Gideon Hou, Joe Connors and sophomore Ben Tillar won in 1:37.15. Sophomore Sean Glass, senior Patrick Lynch, freshmen Ed Pagano and Justin Kwong followed in second with a time of 1:39.49. Freshman Berkay Polat then won the 1000 Free in a career-best 10:02.95. Classmate James Weber took third place with a time of 10:27.60.<\/p>\n
In the 200 Free, senior Christopher Price won with a time of 1:46.44 while Pagano placed second in a career-best time of 1:48.08. Hopkins then swept the top three spots in the 50 Free, led by Tillar with a time of 21.79. Glass touched in 22.25 to finish in second and Kwong finished in 22.87 for third place. Lynch won the 200 IM as he clocked in at 2:01.68, followed by Polat in 2:02.29. The 100 Fly saw Connors win by more than three seconds as he touched in 52.49 for first place. Hunt placed second as he touched in 55.74. <\/p>\n
Tillar earned his second individual win of the afternoon as he took first in the 100 Free with a time of 47.92. Price followed in second place in 49.41. Sophomore David Woodford then won the 100 Back with a time of 54.68, followed closely by Glass, who touched in 55.19. Hopkins swam exhibitions in the final three events.
\nHopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 21 against the sixth-ranked Stevens Tech Ducks. The meet is scheduled to start at 11:00 am in the Newton White Athletic Center.<\/p>\n
