﻿{"id":293377,"date":"2018-01-24T17:45:49","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T00:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=293377"},"modified":"2018-01-24T17:29:49","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T00:29:49","slug":"four-different-schools-take-weekly-caa-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/four-different-schools-take-weekly-caa-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Different Schools Take Weekly CAA Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span data-term=\"goog_1409501340\">On Wednesday<\/span>, the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) handed out four weekly swimming and diving awards to four different student-athletes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drexel sophomore\u00a0<strong>Jason Arthur<\/strong>\u00a0was named Men\u2019s Swimmer of the Week, Towson freshman\u00a0<strong>Will Canny<\/strong>\u00a0earned Men\u2019s Diver of the Week, William &amp; Mary junior\u00a0<strong>Morgan Smith<\/strong>\u00a0picked up Women\u2019s Swimmer of the Week honors, and Northeastern senior\u00a0<strong>Alyssa Seales<\/strong>\u00a0rounded out the awards as the Women\u2019s Diver of the Week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>MEN\u2019S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Jason Arthur \u2022 Drexel<br \/>\nSophomore<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Teaneck, N.J.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Drexel\u2019s regular season finale at Georgetown over the weekend, Arthur won three individual events and also swam a leg on a winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:34.40) as the Dragons defeated the Hoyas to remain undefeated on the season. The sophomore captured gold in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, registering respective times of 50.49 and 1:48.80, and capped the meet with another victory in the 400-IM (4:02.88). All three individual performances rank among the top-10 for the best times per event in the CAA this season. This is Arthur\u2019s second Swimmer of the Week honor of 2017-18 and first since\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1409501341\">Dec. 6<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>MEN\u2019S DIVER OF THE WEEK:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Will Canny \u2022 Towson<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Freshman<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Havertown, Pa.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canny\u2019s second weekly award (first since\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1409501342\">Oct. 25<\/span>) comes after the freshman swept both boards in the Tigers\u2019 home finale win over conference foe Delaware this past weekend. The Pennsylvania native scored 262.65 on the 1-meter and 294.15 on the 3-meter. According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/collegeswimming.com\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/collegeswimming.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1516924267872000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEyY3Ql-6VdRwUtNPXLj4q23Z-m0A\">collegeswimming.com<\/a>, his winning 3-meter score is the highest in the CAA so far this season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>WOMEN\u2019S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Morgan Smith \u2022 William &amp; Mary<br \/>\nJunior<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>| Verona, N.J.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Smith, who becomes the second W&amp;M women\u2019s swimmer to win the top individual weekly CAA honor this season, helped the Tribe take down Davidson over the weekend in their home finale to move to 11-2 overall. The junior started the meet with a third place finish in the 200 free, but followed with a program pool record in the 400 IM (4:29.34) breaking the previous mark of 4:30.78 set during the 2007 season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>WOMEN\u2019S DIVER OF THE WEEK:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Alyssa Seales \u2022 Northeastern<br \/>\nSenior<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>|<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Framingham, Mass.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seales joins teammate Jacquelyn Gover as the only Huskies to win a pair of weekly CAA diving awards this season. The Massachusetts native shined in the final home meet of her NU career, sweeping both diving boards in a victory over Central Connecticut State.
