{"id":293301,"date":"2018-01-24T07:26:43","date_gmt":"2018-01-24T14:26:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=293301"},"modified":"2018-01-24T07:26:43","modified_gmt":"2018-01-24T14:26:43","slug":"usms-provides-infrastructure-for-college-club-swimming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usms-provides-infrastructure-for-college-club-swimming\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Masters Swimming Provides Infrastructure for College Club Swimming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>U.S. Masters Swimming, the national governing body for adult swimming,\u00a0is helping to unify collegiate club swim programs across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usms.org\/articles\/articledisplay.php?aid=3441\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> from U.S. Masters Swimming, the two organizations have a lot in common but\u00a0the latter is missing consistent leadership, unity and a nation-wide presence. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/collegiate-club-swimming-the-path-less-traveled\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swimming club in college<\/a> has grown increasingly popular over the last decade, but the teams are typically led by student organizers. This results in frequent turnaround and inconsistency when these students graduate.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u201cUSMS is excited to help unify and strengthen CCS. We saw an opportunity to help grow the sport of swimming at the college level and promote the health and fitness benefits of swimming as a lifelong endeavor. The parallels between College Club Swimming and Masters Swimming make this a great partnership. We look forward to its continued growth,\u201d USMS CEO<strong> Dawson Hughes<\/strong> said in the report.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The new national governing body, College Club Swimming, started their inaugural season in August 2017. Utah State&#8217;s CCS Advisory Board member <strong>Jayden Howell<\/strong>\u00a0also sees the similarities between the two groups and described\u00a0how the competitors feel about their new infratsructure.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u201cMany college club programs are excited about partnering with USMS\u2014an organization that understands our love of swimming for fun, health, fitness, and competition. Masters swimmers are much like us, and it\u2019s great to know that USMS is there for us to continue our sport long after college is over,\u201d Howell said<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>CCS will be hosting its first National Championship in April 2018 succeeded by an election for its second Advisory Board, made up primarily of college club officers, this spring.<\/p>\n<h3>About College Club Swimming<\/h3>\n<p>USMS is providing infrastructure for club and swimmer registration, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeclubswimming.com\/page.cfm?pagetitle=Club+Lookup\">club lookup tool<\/a>\u00a0to help clubs and swimmers connect,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeclubswimming.com\/calendar.cfm?pagetitle=Calendar+of+Events\">a calendar of events<\/a>, and an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeclubswimming.com\/page.cfm?pagetitle=Event+Rankings\">individual swimmer results database<\/a>.
