BYU head coach Tim Powers announced earlier this week that he will retire after 37 years in Salt Lake City. <\/p>\n<p>Powers coached more than 40 All-Americans and saw swimmers and divers compete in every Olympics from 1976 to 2004. Powers started coaching at BYU in 1975, where he ran the men&#39;s and women&#39;s teams for seven years. In 1982, he handed over the reins on the women&#39;s team to put his full focus on the men&#39;s team, which he coached exclusively until 2008, when the school combined both programs and asked Powers to coach both men and women again. Powers was given one of the highest honors in coaching, the Master Coach Award from the Collegiate Swim Coaches Association of America for recording at least 11 consecutive winning seasons, placing swimmers on Olympic teams and coaching athletes to NCAA All-America status.
