YESTERDAY evening, a group of seven parents, alumni and coaches met with University of Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson to present a business plan to save the men&#39;s and women&#39;s swimming and diving teams, according to a story on WUSA9.com.<\/p>\n<p>In the 90-minute meeting, the group Save UMD Swim &#038; Dive presented a variety of solutions they believe could keep the teams running past this season. The teams are <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/College\/28835.asp>slated to be cut on June 30<\/a> unless supporters can find eight years&#39; worth of financial support before then, which would total nearly $11.5 million, according to WUSA9.<\/p>\n<p>Among the business solutions proposed by Save UMD Swim &#038; Dive include identifying a prospect donor list of 50 prominent individuals with a target of $3M in donations and developing a business plan to raise annual revenues in excess of $250,000.<\/p>\n<p>The group has raised nearly $1 million in donations so far.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Save UMD Swim &#038; Dive listed various state politicians who are ready to lend their support to the group, including Senator Jim Brochin, and pointed out the nearly 14,000 Facebook followers who are voicing support around the country.<\/p>\n<p><i>Swimming World<\/i> has learned that head coach Sean Schimmel, as well as a few swimmers and parents, are visiting politicians at the Maryland State Capitol today in Annapolis to garner more support for the cause.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/news\/maryland\/article\/185353\/189\/Save-UMD-Smim-Teams>Read the full article on WUSA9.com.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, January 18.
