NEW Zealand has picked the four swimmers who will travel to Portugal later this year for a chance to represent the Kiwis at the Olympics in the 10K marathon swim. <\/p>\n<p>At the national 10K championships last weekend in Taupo, Cara Baker and Charlotte Webby were the top two New Zealand finishers, earning the right to swim in the women&#39;s Olympic qualifying race, while Kane Radford and Jonathan Pullon will compete in the men&#39;s race after being the top two Kiwis in that race. Australia&#39;s Melissa Gorman and Trent Grimsey spoiled the party for the New Zealanders by winning the 10K races and picking up some good prize money. Radford is considered one of New Zealand&#39;s rising stars in open water, winning a couple of Tiburon Mile races and finishing in the top 30 in the 5K at last summer&#39;s world championships.<\/p>\n<p>USA water polo was unable to sweep the gold medals at the Pan Pacific championships in Melbourne last weekend, with a gold medal for the men&#39;s team and silver for the women. The men beat Australia 11-10 in overtime while the women lost to the Aussies 7-4. The American women were able to get a little bit of revenge in an exhibition match in Sydney today, winning 13-12 in overtime. It&#39;s likely the Aussies will be a major obstacle for the Americans in London when water polo gets underway July 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, January 17.
