{"id":292883,"date":"2018-01-20T09:24:36","date_gmt":"2018-01-20T16:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=292883"},"modified":"2018-01-20T09:24:36","modified_gmt":"2018-01-20T16:24:36","slug":"air-force-swim-meets-against-unlv-cancelled-due-to-govt-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/air-force-swim-meets-against-unlv-cancelled-due-to-govt-shutdown\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Force Swim Meets Against UNLV Cancelled Due to Gov&#8217;t Shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Air Force swim and dive teams were scheduled to take on the University of Nevada-Las Vegas on Saturday, but those meets have been postponed due to the federal government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Due to the government shutdown, all Air Force Academy home and away intercollegiate athletic events have been cancelled until further notice,&#8221; read a statement posted on the Academy&#8217;s website. &#8220;In the event a solution is reached, the Academy will work to reschedule as many missed events as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The federal government was shut down late Friday night after the U.S. Congress could not come to an agreement over funding of the federal government. According to <a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/government-shutdown-affect\/story?id=52463538\" target=\"_blank\">an ABC News report<\/a>,\u00a0most non-essential military and Department of Defense action is put on hold, and nearly 20,000 employees will be furloughed until the shutdown ends.<\/p>\n<p>An athletic spokesman for the Naval Academy told ESPN that all Navy athletic events would continue Saturday, but Navy&#8217;s swim teams were not scheduled to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Army was scheduled to compete in swimming at George Mason University (with Boston University and American&#8217;s women&#8217;s teams also in attendance). It&#8217;s unclear if the Golden Knight will still take part in that meet, and\u00a0<em>Swimming World<\/em> has reached out to Army for clarification.<\/p>\n<p>Read a full statement from the Air
