DENVER, Colorado, January 14. UNIVERSITY of Denver sophomore Kyle Milberg (Littleton, Colo) and senior Clayton Myers (Arvada, Colo.) both set new pool records as the Pioneers defeated Brigham Young and Wyoming on Saturday at El Pomar Natatorium.<\/p>\n
"Our athletes got mentally ready to compete today and I was really proud of our efforts," said swimming head coach Brian Schrader. "Our women really had to stay tough to win a close meet and we had a lot of people step up to put critical points on the board against BYU. Overall it was a great way to start the second half of our year."<\/p>\n
The Pioneers men defeated BYU, 192.50-107.50. Wyoming didn't fare much better as DU raced to a 185-115 win, behind the performances of Milberg and Myers.<\/p>\n
Milberg's new pool record came in the 200 Backstroke, placing first with a time of 1:47.70. He also won the 100 Backstroke (50.28) and the 100 Butterfly (49.87). Myer's new record was with in his first-place time of 3:59.19 in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n
The women defeated the Cougars, 158-142, and the Cowgirls 208-92 to remain undefeated in dual meets.<\/p>\n
Junior Rachel Burns (Tampa, Fla.) sprinted to a first-place finish in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23.65 and the 100 Freestyle (51.43). The women's 400 Freestyle Relay team of freshman Anna Labozan (Superior, Colo.), Burns, freshman Samantha Corea (Victoria, British Columbia) and freshman Drew Matthews (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished almost three seconds faster than second-place, finishing in 3:27.29. Senior Jackie Leung (Gresham, Ore.) recorded second, third and fourth-place finishes on the day, barely falling behind teammate Jaclyn Best (Boulder, Colo.) in the 1000 Freestyle.<\/p>\n
Senior Elizabeth Yovich (Parker, Colo.) placed first in the 3-M diving event with a score of 275.70. Freshman diver Ross Edfort (Somerset, N.J.) scored a 320.70 in the men's 1-M event giving him a second-place finish.<\/p>\n
The Pioneers will return to action against the Air Force Academy on Jan. 21, in Colorado Springs, Colo.<\/p>\n
