NIAGARA, New York, January 13. THE University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to action on Friday after a six week break to down Niagara at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The UB men (3-0) scored a 124-100 win over the Purple Eagles while the UB women (3-2) defeated the hosts by a 126-93 margin.<\/p>\n
UB won 16 of the meet's first 20 events before exhibitioning the remainder of the competition.<\/p>\n
The Bulls swept four individual races as well as the opening relay to post victories on Friday.<\/p>\n
In the 1,000-yard freestyles, Alie Schirmers took the women's race in 10:36.50 while Phil Aronica won the men's event in 9:50.71. In the 200-yard freestyle, Emma Miller (1:56.73) and Matt Schwippert (1:45.21) took first place. Taylor Snyder won the women's 50-yard freestyle in 25.07 while Matt Hogan posted a season-best 21.54 for his victory. Melissa Trail (1:00.30) and Eric Culver (52.75) claimed the women's and men's 100-yard butterflies, respectively.<\/p>\n
Other women's wins were turned in by Spencer Rodriguez in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.58) and Marissa Murphy in the 100-yard backstroke (59.00). Ava Giachino posted a season-best mark of 274.79 to win the women's one-meter diving event.<\/p>\n
For the UB men, Colin McAllister won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.95 and Mike Dugan won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:50.39. Colin Patrican won the men's three-meter diving competition at 339.67.<\/p>\n
The Bulls also swept the opening relay, the 200-yard medley relay. Murphy, Rodriguez, Amanda Reall and Mallory Morrell combined to win the women's race in 1:51.63. Travis Bohn, Christian Muller, Josh Meints and Schwippert teamed up to win the men's event in 1:36.57.<\/p>\n
Both squads travel to Binghamton for a dual meet tomorrow starting at 2:00 pm.<\/p>\n
