{"id":292396,"date":"2018-01-15T19:54:39","date_gmt":"2018-01-16T02:54:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=292396"},"modified":"2018-01-15T19:54:39","modified_gmt":"2018-01-16T02:54:39","slug":"usc-sweeps-wisconsin-in-mlk-matinee-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-sweeps-wisconsin-in-mlk-matinee-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"USC Sweeps Wisconsin in MLK Matinee Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The No. 7 USC men and No. 9 USC women earned a pair of victories over Wisconsin on Monday at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.<\/p>\n<p>The USC men improved to 6-0 overall with a 148-109 victory over the Badgers while the women moved to 7-0 after their 133-129 victory. The Trojan men are now 6-1 against the Big Ten foe since the schools started the annual January dual seven years ago while USC&#8217;s women are 7-0.<\/p>\n<p>Junior <strong>Carsten Vissering<\/strong>, in his first action as a Trojan since returning from a semester studying abroad, won both breaststroke events, fellow junior <strong>Alex Valente<\/strong> swept the fly events and freshman <strong>Robert Glinta<\/strong> claimed both backstrokes while sophomore <strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong> won twice.<\/p>\n<p>Vissering, the 2017 Pac-12 champion, school record holder and All-American in the 100y breast who spent the fall semester studying in Brisbane, Australia. He made his return by winning the 100y breast in an NCAA B cut of 53.27 and capturing the 200y breast in 2:01.90. He also helped USC to a win in the 200y medley relay to open the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Hansson raced to first in the 100y free in 49.29 and, with the meet on the line, powered home in the 200y IM to touch first in 1:58.17, just 0.17 ahead of Badger <strong>Beata Nelson<\/strong>. Hansson also was part of USC&#8217;s win in the 200y medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Valente won both fly events thanks to a 1:48.50 in the 200, 0.51 ahead of sophomore teammate <strong>Mark Jurek<\/strong>, and a 47.76 in the 100y fly, 0.60 ahead of senior teammate<strong> Santo Condorelli<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Glinta won the 100y back in 47.64, 0.12 ahead of senior teammate <strong>Dylan Carter<\/strong> and 0.68 better than junior <strong>Patrick Mulcare<\/strong> in the sweep. Glinta got the better of Mulcare again, winning the 200y back in 1:46.15. Mulcare, the school record holder in the race, glided to second in 1:46.87.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman<strong> Jake Sannem<\/strong> was USC&#8217;s first individual winner on the day, taking the 200y free in 1:38.23, while junior <strong>Riley Scott<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s squad&#8217;s first individual race with a 1:02.89 in the 100y breast.<\/p>\n<p>Junior <strong>Maddie Wright<\/strong> won her specialty, the 200y fly, in 1:57.38 ahead of Valente&#8217;s win and was followed by a pair of wins in the 50y free thanks to freshman <strong>Marta Ciesla<\/strong> (23.20) and Condorelli (19.85).
