THE Texas Longhorns women&#39;s team couldn&#39;t hold on to their unbeaten dual meet streak, losing last night to the Auburn Tigers 167-133. Ariana Vanderpool-Wallace was the key swimmer for the Tigers, winning the 50 and 100 freestyles and anchoring both winning relays. Tonight, it&#39;s the men&#39;s turn, as the Longhorns and Tigers face off in Auburn. Texas is ranked second in the country on the strength of reigning NCAA champions Mike McBroom and Eric Friedland, as well as top sprinter Jimmy Feigen, who will face a trio of sprint freestylers: Drew Modrov, Karl Krug and James Disney-May.<\/p>\n<p>Across the Pacific Ocean in Melbourne, Australia, Ian Thorpe will swim in the Victoria state championships, which start later today. This will be Thorpe&#39;s first competition in Australia since he retired, and he&#39;s been spending some time back home training with coach Gennadi Touretski. Also swimming in the meet will be Michael Klim, who&#39;s also making a comeback with Olympic aspirations. Both of these swimmers are scheduled to be in the 100 free, which will also feature relay world champion Matt Targett and James Roberts, who could be a spoiler for Thorpe and Klim at the Olympic Trials.
