Women’s Meet<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The William & Mary women’s swimming team rolled on the road\u00a0Saturday<\/span><\/span>, downing Old Dominion 190-104 in the final road meet of the year. The Tribe won its sixth-straight away from home, and improved to 10-2 overall while the Lady Monarchs fell to 0-6 on the season.<\/p>\n

Down 32 points at the start of the meet due to diving, the Tribe made that up with wins in the first three swimming events and never looked back, winning 11 of 14 swimming events total on the day. That included a 1-2 sweep of both relays, with\u00a0Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.)<\/strong>,\u00a0Jess Crowley (Acton, Mass.)<\/strong>,\u00a0Abby Mack (Wayne, Pa.)<\/strong>, and\u00a0Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.)<\/strong>\u00a0combining for the win in the 200 medley relay at 1:45.94 to start the meet off. At the other end of things, Herold led-off the 400 free relay in 52.84 seconds and Sell brought it home in 51.99, while freshmen\u00a0Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.)<\/strong>\u00a0powered through the middle 200 and helped the team put up a total time of 3:30.98 for the win.<\/p>\n

In the individual events, Sell won both of her races, out-touching ODU ace Jacklyn VandePoel in the 100 back in 57.63 seconds, and stopping the clock in 52.53 seconds to win the 100 free by nearly half a second. Fellow junior\u00a0Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.)<\/strong>also won both of her races, winning the 1,000 free in 10:23.59 and the 200 IM in 2:08.25.<\/p>\n

Bull and Crowley each won one race, the freshman taking the 200 free in 1:53.56 while the senior Crowley swam 56.94 seconds, a lifetime-best by 0.4 seconds, to win the 100 fly. Senior\u00a0Meghan Schilken (Pittsburgh, Pa.)<\/strong>\u00a0picked up her first win of the year in the 50 free, out-touching her teammate Herold by .01. Junior\u00a0Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.)<\/strong>\u00a0had an easy 2:06.66 win in the 200 fly, and the Tribe’s final victory came courtesy of sophomore\u00a0Julia Bland (Sea Girt, N.J.)<\/strong>\u00a0in the 500 free, timing 5:08.44.<\/p>\n

\nW&M’s 10-2 record is the most wins since the 2008-09 team finished at 10-2 … It is the eighth time that the Tribe has reached 10 wins … W&M’s six-straight wins away from home is the seventh streak of at least that length all-time, and the longest since winning 11 in a row on the road from Nov. 1, 2008 to Jan. 15, 2010 … Morgan Smith now has a team-best 13 victories … She also reached 25 career wins with her performance in the 200 IM, the best active mark for the Tribe … Katie Sell and Maria Oceguera both reached 20 career wins … Jess Crowley passed 500 career points … With Smith (13), Tara Tiernan (12), Sell (12), and Oceguera (10), the Tribe now has four women with 10+ wins for the first time since 2012-13 … Since 1990-91, the record for the most swimmers over 10 wins in a year is six, set back in 2006-07 … That record could be in jeopardy, as four more women have at least six wins including\u00a0Annie Miller (Houston, Texas)<\/strong>\u00a0with eight, and six apiece for Megan Bull,\u00a0Shannon Harrington (Philadelphia, Pa.)<\/strong>, and Crowley.<\/p>\n

Men’s Meet<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The William & Mary men’s swimming team tied the all-time record for most consecutive road wins with a 184-110 victory at Old Dominion\u00a0on Saturday<\/span><\/span>. The win, W&M’s seventh in a row on the road, improved the\u00a0Tribe<\/span>\u00a0to 9-1 overall, while the Monarchs fell to 1-4 on the season.<\/p>\n

W&M started the meet down 32 points due to diving held earlier in the day, and though it took until the seventh event to take the lead, the\u00a0Tribe<\/span>‘s momentum was as irresistible as the tides with 11 wins in the 14 swimming events. That included a sweep of the two relays, starting with the 200 medley relay where\u00a0Colin Demers (Virginia Beach, Va.)<\/strong>\u00a0staked the\u00a0Tribe<\/span>\u00a0to a wire-to-wire win in 1:32.18 alongside teammates\u00a0Devin McNulty (Herndon, Va.)<\/strong>,\u00a0Jack Doherty (Middletown, Conn.)<\/strong>, and\u00a0Kyle Neri (Wallingford, Conn.)<\/strong>. On the other end of the meet, Neri led-off the 400 free relay before handing off to\u00a0Colin Wright (Williamsburg, Va.)<\/strong>,\u00a0Eric Grimes (Louisville, Ky.)<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ian Thompson (Alexandria, Va.)<\/strong>who brought the win home in 3:03.87.<\/p>\n

In between the two relays, six men won nine events. Among the double-winners was Thompson, who took the 50 free by nearly a second in 20.69 and turned around immediately to win the 100 free in 45.69, finishing ahead of his teammate Neri in both events. Fellow sophomore\u00a0Ben Skopic (Marriottsville, Md.)<\/strong>\u00a0showed his impressive range with a win in the 200 IM in 1:41.37 and later the 200 IM in 1:53.08, and junior\u00a0Carter Kale (Williamsburg, Va.)<\/strong>\u00a0kept his perfect streak alive in the 500 free with a 4:36.75 win. Kale also won the 200 fly in 1:52.26. The three single winners included Doherty, who won the 100 fly in 49.99 seconds, as well as Demers in the 100 back (51 seconds flat) and freshman\u00a0Jake Kealy (Wilton, Conn.)<\/strong>, winning the 200 back in 1:51.64.<\/p>\n
