PHOENIX, Arizona, January 7. IN its final home meet of the season Saturday, the UC San Diego swimming and diving team split a dual against Grand Canyon University at Canyonview Pool.
\nThe Triton women defeated the Antelopes by a score of 159-103, while GCU won on the men's side, 146 to 116.<\/p>\n
Senior Alex Henley won all four events she competed in. Individually, she was victorious in the 200 butterfly (2:05.57), the 200 backstroke (2:04.95) and the 200 IM (2:07.46). Henley was also part of the winning 400 medley relay team (3:53.25) along with freshman Jaclyn Amog, Neda Nguyen and Anji Shakya.<\/p>\n
UCSD had several other multiple winners. Shakya took the 100 (53.51) and 200 freestyle (1:54.67) events, while Emily Adamczyk was first in the 100 (1:06.22) and 200 breaststroke (2:19.96). The junior also placed second in the 200 IM (2:09.12). Amog was part of two winning relay squads as the Tritons owned the top spot in the 200 free relay (1:36.86).<\/p>\n
Sophomore Kat Andersen placed second in two events, the 100 free (54.04) and 200 free (1:57.27).<\/p>\n
The Triton men were strongest in the distance swims as they owned the top three spots in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events. In the 500, Matt Herman was first (4:45.96), Alex Merrill took second (4:51.90) and Michael Lorch was third (4:55.52). The 1000 featured Herman with the win (9:56.75), Jeremy Smith placing second (9:58.82) and freshman Tyler Henry taking third (10:01.68).<\/p>\n
Merrill posted a victory in the 200 freestyle (1:41.18).<\/p>\n
It was a busy two days for the Tritons as they competed Friday at San Diego State in a meet that also included Division I programs Rice, TCU and Washington State.<\/p>\n
UCSD hits the road for two more duals prior to the conference championships. On Jan. 14 the Tritons head to Loyola Marymount and on Jan. 21 they'll compete at Cal Baptist.<\/p>\n
