Several exciting meets took place around the ACC as we approach the beginning of the weekend. Florida State took on Miami and Alabama, UVA and Virginia Tech kicked off an ACC dual while Duke faced off with Queens in an in-state battle. Notre Dame took on Illinois and Iowa in Iowa City.<\/p>\n

Miami (women) and Alabama at Florida State<\/h3>\n

Scores<\/strong><\/p>\n

Women: FSU\/Miami 231-68, Alabama\/FSU: 153-143<\/p>\n

Men: Alabama\/FSU:\u00a0156.50-143.50<\/p>\n

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams from Florida State University suffered narrow losses to Alabama while the lady Noles took a huge win over Miami.<\/p>\n

FSU suffered blows in the first three events, the 200 medley relay, the 1650 free and the 200 free, though a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 backstroke helped keep the Noles in the running. The sweep was conducted by Madeline Cohen<\/strong>, who\u00a0posted\u00a0a time of 55.48. Cohen was followed by senior Ariel Barber<\/strong> in 56.14 while freshman Ana Zortea<\/strong>\u00a0took third with a\u00a0time of 56.30.<\/p>\n

The women also completed a 1-2 sweep in the 100 freestyle with freshman Emma Terebo<\/strong> and senior Alexi Smith<\/strong> touching in\u00a050.40 and 50.57, respectively.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side the Noles struggled to win events but their depth was key to keeping the meet close. The Noles took 2-3 in several races such as the 1650 freestyle with senior\u00a0Calvin Bryant<\/strong> posting a 15:53.72 and junior Daniel Bis with his 15:55.48. Another 2-3 finish was in the 100 freestyle with sophomore Felipe Ribeiro de Souza<\/strong> who swam a\u00a044.82 with fellow Nole Will Pisani<\/strong> in 44.86.<\/p>\n

Up next for the Noles is a two-day dual with Notre Dame, starting on January 19 while the Canes will travel to Alabama on January 18.<\/p>\n

Virginia\u00a0at Virginia Tech<\/h3>\n

In this two-day ACC dual the Virginia Tech\u00a0men\u00a0currently have the winning edge with\u00a0a score of 110-56 while the women\u2019s team is tied at 83.5 points each.<\/p>\n

The Hokies took the opening 200 freestyle relay with a 1:20.13. This momentum was followed by\u00a0Norbert Szabo<\/strong>‘s win in the 200 IM with his time of 1:48.23. this triggered a three-event win streak for the Hokies in the 500 free and 100 breast. Lane Stone<\/strong> took the 500 in 4:27.92 while Justin Edwards<\/strong> took the win in the 100 breast with a swift 55.25, while Szabo touched third there.<\/p>\n

On the women’s side the Hokies took 1-2 in the 500 freestyle with\u00a0as Jenna Beattie<\/strong> who swam a 4:55.71 followed by Eleanor<\/strong> Matheson’s<\/strong> 4:56.86.<\/p>\n

UVA nabbed a few wins on day one of the dual. One of those events was the 100 freestyle where freshman Anna Pang<\/strong> posted a 50.04 ahead of Eryn Eddy<\/strong>‘s second place time of 50.26.<\/p>\n

Duke at Queens<\/h3>\n

Women: Duke 158, Queens 103<\/p>\n

Men: Queens 139, Duke 123<\/p>\n

The Duke women took a major win over Queens while the men suffered a blow to the royals.<\/p>\n

Freshman Connie Dean<\/strong> helped the Blue Devils by sweeping the breaststroke events, taking the 100 distance with a 1:04.00 and 2:18.85 in the 200 distance. Teammate Lizzie Devitt<\/strong> took the 200 backstroke just prior to Dean’s breaststroke performance in a time of 2:00.81.<\/p>\n

On the men’s side Senior Matt Johnson<\/strong> took the distance freestyle event, which was the first event of the evening. Johnson swam the 1000 yard race in 9:27.82 while, just after, teammates Miles Williams<\/strong> and Sheldon Boboff<\/strong> completed a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle. Continuing the Blue Devil freestyle dominance, Junior Yusuke Legard<\/strong> took the win in the 50 with a 20.48.<\/p>\n

Notre Dame at Iowa with Illinois (women)<\/h3>\n

For this two-day tri-dual the Fighting Irish travelled to Iowa to face the University of Iowa Hawkeyes and Illinois. Day one only included the 200 free relay, 1-meter diving for the women, 3-meter diving for the men, the 100 IM and the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n

Some wins for the Irish men came from Senior Robert Wallace<\/strong> in the 100 IM with a time of 50.81 while teammate Nicholas Milikich touched second in 51.73<\/p>\n

Notre Dame took\u00a0a few second place finishes, some of which came from the relays. In the 200 free relay UND put together a 1:20.87 for second place while their 3:18.09 in the 400 medley relay was good enough for second place there.<\/p>\n

On the women’s side Notre Dame’s Rachel Wittmer<\/strong> swam 56.85 for the win ahead of her teammate Meaghan O’Donnell<\/strong> who swam a 57.08.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
