The University of Texas men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams defeated Auburn University at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n
The lady Longhorns defeated the lady Tigers by scoring 175 points over Auburn\u2019s score of 117. The men were able to get past Auburn with a score of 160 to the Eagles\u2019 score of 140.<\/p>\n
Longhorn freshman Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> took the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:57.48, ahead of teammate Joanna Evans<\/strong>\u2019 10:02.40, to solidify her as the only woman in the meet to dip under the 10:00 mark. Longhorns Chris Yeager<\/strong> and Jonathan Roberts<\/strong> took 1-2 in the men\u2019s race with their marks of 9:12.46 and 9:12.82, respectively.<\/p>\n Auburn\u2019s Zach Apple<\/strong> took the men\u2019s 200-yard freestyle over national champion Townley Haas<\/strong> with a 1:37.52, over Haas\u2019 mark of 1:39.11. Apple secured another victory in the men\u2019s 100-yard freestyle with the only sub-44 time of 43.64.<\/p>\n Longhorn senior Quinn Carrozza<\/strong> earned herself two individual victories in the women\u2019s 200-yard freestyle and the women\u2019s 200-yard backstroke with times of 1:47.44 and 1:55.26.<\/p>\n There was a dead heat in the men\u2019s 100-yard backstroke between Auburn\u2019s Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> and Texas\u2019 Ryan Harty<\/strong>. Both men each posted a 47.85 to share first over Longhorn senior John Shebat<\/strong> who posted a 48.60. Auburn\u2019s Gonzalez showed his versatility by also winning the men\u2019s 400-yard IM in a time of 3:48.02.<\/p>\n The lack of breaststrokers on the Texas men\u2019s squad was clear in the 100 and 200-yard events with Auburn\u2019s Tommy Brewer<\/strong>, who posted a 55.39 and a 2:00.67 in each distance, respectively. For what the Longhorn men lost in the breaststroke events, they picked up in the butterfly races. Longhorn senior Joseph Schooling<\/strong> posted a 47.43 and a 1:44.95 in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly distances, which earned him the win in both events.<\/p>\n Both Longhorn squads won the 200-yard medley relay while both the men and women from Auburn took the 200-yard freestyle relays.<\/p>\n Texas will attend the Austin Pro Swim Series this weekend while Auburn will host the Ralph Crocker Invitational.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Jason Tillotson.
