TUCSON, Arizona, December 25. SOMEWHERE near the end of my workout today, I considered many options for an appropriate song title for today's blog entry.<\/p>\n
While warming down, I began playing Nat King Cole's version of "The Christmas Song" over and over in my head. I couldn't get it out! By the time I was done with my soak in the hot tub, inspiration had struck.<\/p>\n
Below are some lyrics I thought of, to be sung in the tune of "The Christmas Song." But first, here is today's workout:<\/p>\n
300 warmup<\/p>\n
Four rounds, all swum with short fins and descended by rounds:
\n200 free on 3:00
\n150 back on 2:15
\n100 breast on 1:45
\n50 fly on 1:30
\n(Last round: 2:08, 1:42, 1:08. :29)<\/p>\n
200 easy<\/p>\n
4×15 breast breakouts on :45<\/p>\n
8×50 free on 1:00, breathe every 6<\/p>\n
100 easy<\/p>\n
2×50 breast fast from push (29.5 on both)<\/p>\n
8×50 back on 1:00 recovery<\/p>\n
Total: 3,600 yards (70 minutes)<\/p>\n
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
\nSunblock slathered on my nose
\nBackstroke flags blowing hard on a wire
\nI stretch my arms and say "Well, here it goes."<\/p>\n
Everybody knows
\nA pace clock and a sun that glows
\nHelp to make a workout bright
\nJudging by my workout I know,
\nI won't find it hard to sleep tonight<\/p>\n
I know that Olympic Trials is on its way
\nThat's why I needed to swim hard on Christmas Day
\nAnd every swimming coach is gonna spy
\nTo see if this breaststroker really does butterfly<\/p>\n
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
\nTo kids from 1 to 92
\nDon't know if it's been said many times, but anyways
