The Florida Gators swept rival Florida State in the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown.<\/p>\n
The No. 6 men defeated the No. 19 Seminoles 209-91, while the No. 9 women topped FSU 184-116.<\/p>\n
Florida’s men recorded 12 individual wins and two relay wins en route to the victory, while the women notched 12 wins (10 individual, two relays) and 27 top-3 finishes.<\/p>\n
Jan Switkowski<\/strong> and Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> each picked up four wins on the men’s side. Both contributed to first place finishes in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, but individually, Switkowski won the 100 fly (47.61) and 200 fly (1:44.44) with B-cut times. Caeleb notched wins in the 50 free and 100 free, recording B-cut times of 19.40 and 43.57, respectively.<\/p>\n On the women’s side, Sherridon Dressel<\/strong> won the 50 free with a time of 23.18 and followed with a 50.16 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n Brooke Madden<\/strong> led the Gator women on the 1-meter, finishing with her fourth win of the season. She posted a mark of 270.45.<\/p>\n Behind a four-victory performance by junior Kyle DeCoursey<\/strong>, the No. 12 Tennessee men’s swimming and diving team rolled to a 198-100 victory over No. 21 Virginia on Friday at Allan Jones Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n The Vols (6-1) won 14 of 16 events in the comprehensive win to open the 2018 spring schedule.<\/p>\n The No. 7 Tennessee women (5-2) won 7 of 16 events in a 177-123 loss to No. 11 Virginia. The seven events were won by seven different Lady Vols.<\/p>\n DeCoursey won the 200 freestyle (1:36.20) the 50 freestyle (20.06) and the 100 freestyle (44.23). He also swam the anchor leg to help the Vols rally past Virginia in the 400 freestyle relay to conclude the meet.<\/p>\n Senior Sam McHugh<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly (1:46.29) and the 200 IM.<\/p>\n Additional Tennesssee victories on the men’s side included David Heron<\/strong> in the 1650 freestyle (15:05.71), Braga Verhage<\/strong> in the 100 backstroke (49.24), Peter John Stevens<\/strong> in the 100 breaststroke (54.02), Taylor<\/strong> Abbott<\/strong> in the 500 freestyle (4.28.86) and Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> in the 100 butterfly (47.66).<\/p>\n With his preliminary performance in the Tennessee Diving Invitational, Colin Zeng<\/strong> provided a victory in the 1-meter springboard (365.60), and senior Liam Stone<\/strong> got the win on 3-meter (379.60).<\/p>\n Seven swimmers and divers provided victories for the Lady Vols: Amanda Nunan<\/strong> in the 1650 freestyle (16:50.61), Micah Bohon<\/strong> in the 100 backstroke (54.45), Tjasa Pintar<\/strong> in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.28), Emily<\/strong> Sykes<\/strong> in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.09), Erika Brown<\/strong> in the 100 butterfly (53.47) and Meghan Small<\/strong> in the 200 IM (2:00.34).<\/p>\n For Virginia, Caitlin Cooper<\/strong> and senior Jennifer Marrkand<\/strong> captured two individual first-place finishes to lead the women. Cooper paced the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.35 and 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.40. Marrkand won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:57.61 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:50.64.<\/p>\n On the men\u2019s side, redshirt junior Brendan Casey<\/strong> and freshman Matthew Otto<\/strong> finished first in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard breaststroke, respectively. Casey recorded a time of 1:46.67, while Otto finished with a time of 1:59.10.<\/p>\n Georgia’s Freida Lim<\/strong> won the women\u2019s platform competition during the Tennessee Collegiate Diving Invitational.<\/p>\n Lim, a sophomore from Singapore, rolled up 267.05 points on five dives. She led off with 68.6 and 63.0 on her first two dives — an inward 2.5 somersault pike and a forward 3.5 somersault pike — to seize control of the competition. Minnesota\u2019s Kristen Hayden<\/strong> was second with 254.30 points and Missouri\u2019s Madeline McKernan<\/strong> came in third with 253.60.<\/p>\n The Missouri men defeated SMU 173-85 to improve to 4-1 in dual meets this season, while the women downed the Mustangs 147-11 to go to 2-3 on the year.<\/p>\n Three Tigers, senior Erin Metzger-Seymour<\/strong> and juniors Courtney Evensen<\/strong> and Jordan O’Brien<\/strong> all secured two event wins on the day.<\/p>\n Evensen took home top honors in both the women’s 500 free (5:04.06) and 1000 free (10:20.80), while O’Brien swept the breaststroke events, with victories in the 100 (55.67) and 200 (2:03.72).
