Making An Impact<\/h2>\n

Canada\u2019s Kylie Masse<\/strong> is a world record holder in the 100 meter backstroke and the first Canadian female swimmer ever to win a world title, and she realizes the importance\u2014and privilege\u2014of motivat\u00ading young Canadian swimmers who now aspire to be like Masse.<\/p>\n

After not qualifying for the 2015 Pan-American Games to be held in her hometown of Toronto, Masse rebounded with her first international victory in the 100 meter backstroke at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea. And from there she just got better.<\/p>\n

Gemma Spofforth\u2019s<\/strong> world record in the women\u2019s 100 back (58.12) was the last remaining women\u2019s WR from 2009, set during the year of the \u201csuper suit.\u201d Masse was aiming for that record at last summer\u2019s World Championships in Budapest, and after flirting with it in prelims (58.21) and semifinals (58.18), she finally reached her goal with a winning time of 58.10.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
