SAN ANTONIO, Texas, December 7. IN a special attraction that featured eight swimmers with 15 Olympic gold medals, more than 25 world and American records and more than 40 national titles between then, current University of Texas sprinter Jimmy Feigen surfaced victorious in the 50-yard free event entitled the "Fastest Man in Texas."<\/p>\n
The shootout consisted of Ian Crocker, Josh Davis, Feigen, Brendan Hansen, Dax Hill, Aaron Peirsol, Dave Walters and Garrett Weber-Gale. After winning a match race last year against Davis for the "Fastest Man in San Antonio" honor, Feigen beat last night's inaugural field for the state award with a 19.34 to break his pool record of 19.6 from his high school days. That performance proved to be faster than his 19.55 from the Texas Invitational this weekend.<\/p>\n
The rest of the finishes were as follows:
\nGarrett Weber-Gale (19.90), Dax Hill (20.16), Ian Crocker (20.2), David Walters (20.3), Josh Davis (20.66), Aaron Peirsol (20.8), Brendan Hansen (21.5). Full results past a tenth were not made available.<\/p>\n
After the completion of the splash-and-dash, Hansen put on a show in the 50 breaststroke with a 24.6, while Peirsol clocked a 22.4 in the 50 backstroke. Crocker, who has been away from competitive training for three years, won the 50 fly with a 21.4. <\/p>\n
"The atmosphere in the stadium was electric," meet organizer Josh Davis said. "This was the greatest assembly of the fastest swimmers in Texas history, but what makes it even more special is that all of them are good guys who know how to race for something bigger than themselves. Their performance and presence here says a lot about their character, their parents and their UT coaches Eddie Reese and Kris Kubik. All the swim families who were here tonight will be cheering them on for London. If you're the fastest in Texas, then it means you're one of the fastest in the world!"<\/p>\n
The meet concluded with Feigen earning his grand prize package \u2013 a commemorative black cowboy hat and a large belt buckle with the inscription "Fastest Man in Texas."
