ATLANTA, Georgia, December 2. IT came down to the touch with Colorado Star Missy Franklin putting on the steam in the final 15 meters, but France's Camille Muffat earned her second title of the meet after keeping Franklin on her hip the entire women's 200 free at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.<\/p>\n

Muffat stopped the clock in 1:56.61 for the win, shy of her seventh-ranked season best of 1:55.95 from French Nationals in March. Last night, Muffat snagged the women's 400 free title, and now has two for the meet. Franklin, meanwhile, took second in 1:56.71 after missing the first day due to scholastic responsibilities. Franklin is the top-ranked swimmer in the world in the event with a scorching time of 1:55.06 from Worlds. <\/p>\n

The best of the rest went to Brittany MacLean, who earned third-place honors in 1:59.45. Chelsea Chenault (1:59.76), Chelsea Nauta (1:59.82), Nina Rangelova (2:00.02), Samantha Cheverton (2:00.07), Barbara Jardin (2:00.16), Julia Wilkinson (2:00.29) and Laure Manaudou (2:01.61) also competed for the title.<\/p>\n

Jasmine Tosky, the reigning Swimming World<\/i> Female High School Co-Swimmer of the Year, topped the B final in 2:00.24. Heather MacLean earned second in 2:00.56, while Lindsay Delmar (2:00.65), Leone Vorster (2:00.83), Sara Isakovic (2:01.06), Morgan Scroggy (2:01.26), Kate Dwelley (2:01.47), Kara Lynn Joyce (2:01.50), Adrienne Woods (2:02.31) and Kendra Stern (2:02.93) rounded out the consolation heat.<\/p>\n

Amanda Reason claimed the C final win in 2:00.98, while Kim Vandenberg finished a tough double coming on the heels of the 100 fly with a second-place C final time of 2:01.36 in the 200 free. Leah Smith (2:02.58), Jamie Bohunicky (2:02.91), Alexa Komarnycky (2:03.28), Shelby Fortin (2:03.48), Kylie Stewart (2:03.97), Marina Falcone (2:04.31) and Lindsey Laporte (2:04.51) placed third through ninth. The ever-suffering Elizabeth Beisel (2:05.30) took 10th in the heat as she continues her torturous schedule.<\/p>\n
