EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, December 2. THE Dutch Open Long Course Championships kicked off with plenty of meet records falling by the wayside.<\/p>\n
Sergey Fesikov blasted the men's 50 free meet record with a strong 21.98. That clocking vaulted him to eighth in the world rankings after standing 15th with a 22.09 from Worlds. George Bovell and Stefan Nystrand tied for second with matching 22.24s. <\/p>\n
Ranomi Kromowidjojo just missed her second-ranked time of 24.27 from Worlds when she hit the wall in 24.30 for the meet record. Marleen Veldhuis placed second tonight in 24.39, bettering her third-ranked season best of 22.49. Therese Alshammar holds the top swim with a 24.14 from Worlds. Sarah Sjostrom, fresh off setting a Swedish record in the 200 free last week, placed third in 24.75. <\/p>\n
Jessica Dickons raced to victory in the women's 200 fly with a meet-record 2:07.68. That effort jumped her from 25th in the world to 12th, cutting more than a second from her 2:08.91 in August. Mireia Belmonte Garcia took second in 2:09.50, while Martina Granstrom finished third in 2:09.94. <\/p>\n
Hannah Miley claimed the women's 200 IM title in a meet-record 2:12.18. She has a lot more in the tank as she ranks ninth in the world with a 2:10.95 from Worlds. Beatriz Gomes Cortes (2:13.97) and Kathryn Meaklim (2:14.88) finished second and third. <\/p>\n
Melanie Costa Schmid set a meet record in the women's 400 free with a 4:08.80, while Lotte Friis took second in 4:08.87. Femke Heemskerk, typically a sprinter, showed some range with a 4:09.13 to take third. Simon Sjodin cleared the meet record in the men's 200 IM with a 2:00.22, while Xavier Mohammed (2:01.66) and Michael Meyer (2:03.70) placed second and third. <\/p>\n
Hendrik Feldwehr downed the meet mark in the men's 100 breast with a 1:01.02. Akos Molnar (1:01.47) and Lennart Stekelenburg (1:01.71) completed the podium in the event. Moniek Nijhuis bettered the meet standard in the women's 100 breast with a 1:07.75. That swim just missed her 15th-ranked season best of 1:07.60 set at Worlds. Jennie Johansson (1:07.88) and Caroline Ruhnau (1:08.58) placed second and third. Johansson missed her top time as well, as she's posted a 17th-ranked 1:07.80. <\/p>\n
Devon Brown won the men's 400 free in 3:51.28, while Mads Glaesner took second in 3:51.66. Gregorio Paltrinieri (3:54.27) rounded out the top three in the middle distance event.
