Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>and Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kliment Kolesnikov\u00a0<\/strong>highlighted the action.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2017-european-sc-championships-day-5-finals-day-5-international-elite-2017-12-17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Full Results<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Freestyle Semi-Final<\/h3>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>took the first semifinal in a 23.62. France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Bonnett\u00a0<\/strong>was a quarter second behind her in 23.88 while Russian\u00a0<strong>Rozaliya Nasretdinova\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 23.93 for third in that first heat.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>powered to a 23.39 to take the second semifinal. She&#8217;ll be the top seed in the final, her time only .07 shy of the Championship record, a 23.32 set in 2009 by the Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Hinkelien Schreuder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands&#8217; current leading sprinter\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>was just behind Sjostrom in 23.53. She&#8217;ll be the second seed overall. Blume, Bonnett, and Nasretdinova hold the third through fifth spots. Tonight, he held his top spot, but was a hair slower, clocking a 23.14. Taking the second spot into finals is Romanian\u00a0<strong>Robert-Andrei Glinta\u00a0<\/strong>in 23.21.\u00a0<strong>Pavel Sankovich\u00a0<\/strong>of Belarus posted the third fastest time, a 23.28.<\/p>\n<p>It will be a tight final, with three more men only a tenth behind: Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Sabbioni\u00a0<\/strong>(23.31), Romania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Catalin-Paul Ungur\u00a0<\/strong>(23.34), and France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Stravius\u00a0<\/strong>(23.35). He was nearly a half second ahead of the competition.\u00a0<strong>Pieter Timmers\u00a0<\/strong>of Belgium earned silver with a 46.54. Rounding out the podium, also under 47 seconds was\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong>\u00a0of Great Britain<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in a 46.64.<\/p>\n<p>The next trio were tightly bunched: Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Konrad Czerniak\u00a0<\/strong>(47.01), Lithuania&#8217;s<strong> Simonas Bilis\u00a0<\/strong>(47.09) and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dominik Kozma\u00a0<\/strong>(47.13). The Olympic gold medalist destroyed the field, winning the event by nearly a second. Her 55.00 was a new Championship record.<\/p>\n<p>France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marie Wattel\u00a0<\/strong>earned runner up honors in 55.97. Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emilie Beckmann\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the podium with a 56.22.<\/p>\n<p>Taking fourth was Sjostrom&#8217;s fellow countrywoman\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson\u00a0<\/strong>(56.56). Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Bianchi\u00a0<\/strong>touched fifth with a 56.65. Her 23.30 is a new Championship record, just faster than the 23.32 swum by the Netherlands&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Hinkelien Schreuder <\/strong>in 2009. That was Sjostrom&#8217;s second Championship record in as many swims.<\/p>\n<p>The Netherlands took two of the top four spots in the event.\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>was also under the old Championship record, only .01 behind Sjostrom. She touched in 23.31. Their time was .07 faster than the 1:30.51 Brazil posted in Doha in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Simone Sabbioni\u00a0<\/strong>(23.14),\u00a0<strong>Fabio Scozzoli\u00a0<\/strong>(25.45),\u00a0<strong>Piero Codia<\/strong> (22.72), and\u00a0<strong>Luca Dotto\u00a0<\/strong>(20.60) were second in 1:31.91.<\/p>\n<p>Taking bronze was Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Pavel Sankovich\u00a0<\/strong>(23.16),\u00a0<strong>Ilya Shymanovich\u00a0<\/strong>(25.48),\u00a0<strong>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> (22.23), and\u00a0<strong>Anton Latkin\u00a0<\/strong>(21.19) in a 1:32.06.<\/p>\n<p>Poland was fourth (1:32.39) and Germany finished fifth in 1:32.38.
