{"id":288566,"date":"2017-12-15T07:15:13","date_gmt":"2017-12-15T14:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=288566"},"modified":"2017-12-15T06:42:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-15T13:42:05","slug":"mens-3-meter-womens-10-meter-finals-set-at-usa-diving-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mens-3-meter-womens-10-meter-finals-set-at-usa-diving-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Men&#8217;s 3-Meter, Women&#8217;s 10-Meter Finals Set at USA Diving Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GREENSBORO, N.C. \u2013 Day two at the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships slotted finalists in the men\u2019s 3-meter and women\u2019s 10-meter events as both contests had preliminary and semifinal rounds\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859016\">Thursday<\/span>\u00a0at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.\u00a0<strong>Briadam Herrera <\/strong>(Miami, Fla.\/University of Miami)\u00a0continued his success at the meet by placing first after the men\u2019s 3-meter semifinal with a cumulative score of 789.10 points, while\u00a0<strong>Tarrin Gilliland <\/strong>(Liberty Hill, Texas\/COM Aquatics)\u00a0came out on top in the women\u2019s 10-meter semifinal with a cumulative mark of 654.45 points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herrera entered the semifinal seeded second after\u00a0<strong>Jordan Windle <\/strong>(Morrisville, N.C.\/University of Texas)\u00a0took first in the preliminary round. Olympian\u00a0<strong>Michael Hixon <\/strong>(Amherst, Mass.\/Indiana University)\u00a0finished third in the preliminary. The trio made up the top three spots after the semifinal, only with Herrera and Windle trading places.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Herrera carried over 386.25 points from the preliminary and went on to have a stellar semifinal that included a forward 2\u00bd somersault 2 twist pike in round three that earned 81.60 points. He capped off the semifinal with a reverse 1\u00bd somersault 3\u00bd twist free worth 78.75 points that helped him edge Windle (780.80). The Texas Longhorn finished 8.30 points behind Herrera with Hixon (773.45) only 7.35 points behind Windle, making for a high-caliber final\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859017\">on Saturday<\/span>. The top 12 finishers in the semifinal advanced to the final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The women\u2019s 10-meter event mirrored the men\u2019s 3-meter in that Gilliland finished second in the preliminary, trailing only\u00a0<strong>Olivia Rosendahl<\/strong> (Los Angeles, Calif.\/Northwestern University).\u00a0<strong>Murphy Bromberg <\/strong>(Bexley, Ohio\/University of Texas)\u00a0took third and Olympian\u00a0<strong>Jessica Parratto <\/strong>(Dover, N.H.\/Indiana University)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>came in fourth in the preliminary round.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gilliland trailed Rosendahl by 7.95 points heading into the semifinal and came out of the gates eager to close the gap. The 15-year-old opened with a forward 3\u00bd somersault pike worth 72.00 points, her second-highest scoring dive of the semifinal. She topped that with 76.80 points on a back 2\u00bd somersault 1\u00bd twist pike in the final round to claim the top seed in\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859018\">Saturday\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0final. Rosendahl finished with 627.00 points, Bromberg with 593.05 points and Parratto scratched out of the semifinal. Parratto will not join the other nine competitors in the final.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships continue through\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859019\">Tuesday, December 19<\/span>\u00a0in Greensboro, N.C. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859020\">Tomorrow\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0events include the women\u2019s 3-meter preliminary, men\u2019s 10-meter preliminary, women\u2019s 3-meter semifinal and men\u2019s 10-meter semifinal. Competition begins at\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_2080859021\">10:00 a.m. EST<\/span>\u00a0with the women\u2019s 3-meter preliminary.
