MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, November 24. EDINA High School successfully defended its Class AA title Nov. 18-19 at the Minnesota State Girls High School Championships. Their 316 points put them ahead of Minnetonka (188), Stillwater (171), Eden Prairie (165) and John Marshall (141).<\/p>\n
Class AA<\/b>
\nEdina swept all three relays, setting a state record 1:34.40 in the 200 free relay with the team of freshmen Olivia Anderson and Emma Wittmer plus seniors Maryellen Campbell and Nikki Larson. Junior Madeleine Eden and senior Paige Heller joined Anderson and Campbell for a 1:45.65 victory in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Amelia Anderson came on board with Wittmer, Eden and Larson in the 400 free relay, clocking a 3:28.60.<\/p>\n
Individually, Larson captured titles in both the 200 free (1:49.20 and 100 fly (55.09). Anderson led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 breast (1:02.89), with Campbell placing second (1:03.58) and junior Heather Laedtke taking third (1:03.89). <\/p>\n
Chanhassen freshman Kaia Grobe was victorious in the 50 free (23.15) and 100 free (50.18). Sophomore Kira Zubar from Eden Prairie topped the field in the 500 free (4:52.45). Wayzata junior Emma Paulson was first in the 100 back (55.14), and sophomore Taylor Bass of John Marshall finished first in the 200 IM (2:05.19). Forest Lake senior Jessie Ramberg was tops in diving with 472.05 points.<\/p>\n
Class A<\/b>
\nSartell-St. Stephen took the Class A title with 238 points. Two close battles took place to determine the next four places. Northfield scored 173 points to Hutchinson's 170 for second, while Visitation's 166 points gave them fourth over Monticello's 156.<\/p>\n
Sartell-St. Stephen's relay team of Tarin Anding (senior), Lauren Martens (junior), Molly Peichel (senior) and Marisa Wood (junior) was tops in the 200 free relay with their 1:36.62. Junior Ellen Bloom and freshman Jennifer Thompson came together with Peichel and Wood for a 3:32.12 triumph in the 400 free relay. The 200 medley relay team of Bloom, Anding, freshman Gaby Hagen and Martens put together a 1:49.28, just 21-hundredths out of first. Hutchinson's squad of Megan Bateman (freshman), Jordan Ford (junior), Kaylee Kucera (senior) and Aspen Billiet (senior) captured the event in 1:49.07.<\/p>\n
Wood lowered the state record in the 500 free to 4:49.68, and added a divisional mark in the 200 free (1:48.86). Danielle Nack, a sophomore at Mankato West, bettered divisional standards in the 50 free (22.93) and 100 fly (53.97). <\/p>\n
Sartell's Bloom enjoyed victory in both the 200 IM (2:03.86) and 100 back (55.88). Little Falls' senior Whitney Weisz took first in the 100 free (50.57). St. Louis Park junior Kathryn Ostrom won the 100 breast (1:04.65).
