A pair of Finnish swimmers earned the top two spots going into the semifinal session. Ida Hulkko<\/strong> and Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> posted the only two sub-30 second times of 29.85 and 29.93.\u00a0Due to FINA’s rules, only two swimmers from each country may advance to the finals, which pushed Finland’s third fastest swimmer, Veera Kivirinta<\/strong> out of the finals, despite posting the fifth fastest time.\u00a0<\/span>Lithuanian stud Ruta Meilutyte<\/strong> earned the third spot in 30.03. Ireland’s Mona<\/strong> McSharry<\/strong> finished out the top sixteen with her 30.80. There\u00a0was\u00a0a swim-off for a reserve spot between Israel’s Amit Ivri<\/strong> and Denmark’s Josefine Pedersen.\u00a0<\/strong>The swim-off was won by Pedersen in a time of 30.68. Peaty’s 25.94 was bested by Italy’s Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong> who turned in a 25.90. Russia’s Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> earned the third spot with his 26.03. Nabbing a European Junior record in the event was Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi<\/strong> with a 26.43. There was a three way tie for\u00a015th\u00a0place between The Netherlands’ Timon Evenhuis<\/strong>, Russia’s Ilya Khomenko<\/strong> and Serbia’s Caba Siladji<\/strong> who each turned in a 26.81.
