NORTHFIELD, Vermont, November 17. THE Saint Michael's College men's and women's swimming & diving squads split decisions on Wednesday at Norwich University, as the women improved to 3-0 for the third straight year behind a 137-74 victory in Goodyear Pool. The men slipped to 1-2 with a 175-116 loss. The Cadet men are now 2-1, while the women stand 0-3.<\/p>\n
The women won all 14 events, as seniors Kaytlyn Kelley (Jefferson, Mass.\/Wachusett Regional) and Eileen Mullowney (Burlington, Vt.\/Burlington) and sophomore Julie Mullowney (Burlington, Vt.\/Burlington) all played a role in four wins. Each swam on the top 200-yard medley relay quartet, joining senior Sammy Sweeney (Waterbury Center, Vt.\/Harwood Union\/Franklin & Marshall).<\/p>\n
Eileen Mullowney also won the 50-, 100- and 1,000-yard freestyle events, while Kelley topped the 50- and 100-yard breaststrokes. Julie Mullowney won the 100-yard backstroke and 200 free, joining Kelley and freshmen Kim Brady (Morris Township, N.J.\/Academy of Saint Elizabeth) and freshman Kathleen Lamontagne (Manchester, N.H.\/Trinity) on the victorious 200 free relay team.<\/p>\n
Sweeney also won the 100-yard butterfly, and freshman Steph Nadow (Charlton, Mass.\/Saint Peter-Marian) topped the 50 back and 200-yard individual medley races for her first collegiate wins. Classmate Charlotte Murray (Hamden, Conn.\/Hamden) notched her initial win in the 500 free, and senior Kim Marchetti (Hyde Park, Mass.\/Fontbonne Academy) touched the wall first in the 50 fly.<\/p>\n
Senior Dan Healy (South Burlington, Vt.\/South Burlington) won the 50 and 100 back races, while freshman Aidan Meehan (Levittown, N.Y.\/Island Trees) topped the 50 and 100 free events, edging the runners-up by 0.06 and 0.07 seconds, respectively. Senior Michael Sprague (Sharon, Mass.\/Sharon) bested the 500 free field and was second in the 1,000 free, and freshman Matt Annenberg (Cheshire, Conn.\/Cheshire) won one of the one-meter diving events while taking second in the other.<\/p>\n
Freshman Nathan Paluso (Windham, Maine\/Windham) was the runner-up in the 100 breast, finishing within 0.22 seconds of first place. The 200 medley relay quartet was second by 1.08 seconds, as Healy, Meehan, Paluso and sophomore Jack Mulderrig (Rockville Centre, N.Y.\/South Side) swam legs. In the 200 free relay, Healy, Meehan, Paluso and junior Kyle Esposito (Endicott, N.Y.\/Union-Endicott) were just 0.47 ticks off the winning pace.<\/p>\n
Saint Michael's is back in action at Bentley University on Saturday at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
